@Dagny: she is not potty trained which is exactly what I'm worried about. I mean I doubt she would poop in the pool (and wears a swim diaper of course but we all know they aren't great). I texted my pediatrician friend too.

How are things at your house? Everyone healthy-ish?

@Foodnerd81: from what I've read, the symptoms only last 24-48 hours (but I'm guessing this probably depends on the stomach bug) and after that you should be fine, but many sources said whomever was sick will still carry the virus in their stool for a couple weeks. Is LO potty trained? I guess I would just worry about that in regards to swimming.

@Dagny: you seem to know a lot about this. How long after a mild stomach bug- threw up bike several times then just felt crummy for a day- does she have to wait before swimming?

@Foodnerd81: I know - I am usually very relaxed about germs but I can't take it anymore!! I have similar DH concerns. He thinks I'm going a little overboard. How can you go overboard when LO has gotten sick three times?!

@ScarletBegonia: thanks, that's helpful. I guess I do need to try and steam clean the mattress. I think your right about washing hands and LO's diapers. I have been washing my hands and the kids a lot (so much that mine are crazy dry!), but I should be more careful about LO's diaper changes.

We had just a one day flu thing last year. I used straight up bleach in the bathrooms and door handles etc. It was right before my sons birthday party and we had company coming. No one got sick. Good luck!

@Dagny: OMG that website makes me want to burn and bleach everything. I am not really a germaphobe generally but stomach bugs do freak me out. I have definitely been using the wrong chlorox wipes- those go I also don't think we actually had norovirus. Her symptoms were too mild I think. My biggest concern is actually Dh- he doesn't take washing hands and every thing seriously enough, especially between dealing with the toddler then touching the infant!

I use a very concentrated bleach solution (like 1:1 with water) on basically everything, and steam clean anything that's been puked on. I went to goodwill and bought a big stack of towels that I only use for stomach bugs. If they get too gross I throw them away instead of washing.
The main thing that breaks the cycle is meticulous hand washing. Treat you little one's diapers like biohazard, as they shed the noro virus for up to 2 weeks after infection. Wash your hands and LOs hands every time you think of it, and bleach faucets after.
I would wash the mattress cover twice and steam the surface of the mattress, too.
I'm a vomit phobe so I go to extremes, just FYI.

@Foodnerd81: good luck!! I did some research and found out the Clorox wipes I bought and used on some surfaces thinking they would kill the virus don't. The post here was really helpful! http://www.stopthestomachflu.com/Home/how-can-i-avoid-getting-the-stomach-flu
It lists a specific type of Clorox wipe/solution that does kill norovirus. I overnighted them from Amazon - hopefully this helps. It's so discouraging because most sources (including very legitimate sources) say that every washing on high heat and drying on high heat won't necessarily kill the norovirus. :bummed:

Bumping this because we just had the first (mild thankfully!) round of a stomach bug and I want to make sure I do everything to keep it to this one round. I'm sorry you had to go through this three times!

My infant has just had her third stomach bug in three weeks!! My husband also had it twice. This is all on top of a nasty cough/cold we have all had for 8 days now. I did a little bit of sanitizing after the first round and then did everything I could the second round - ran all laundry through sanitizing cycles in the washing machine, bleached common surfaces, etc. i think I was pretty thorough. One thing I did think of - LO cosleeps with me and has puked on our bed almost every time she's been sick. Each time I strip the bed completely and wash everything on the sanitize cycle. But we don't have a waterproof mattress cover. Could the virus be living on the mattress and getting through the sheets and re-infecting her that way?? I'm so sick with a cold on top of all the stomach bug stuff that I'm totally falling apart. I've cried several times today. Any helpful tips for killing this stomach bug are welcome. :crying:
