I agree with @T.H.O.U. and @prettylizy - though, I'd probably push the insurance company to pay for a new seat ...

I agree with T.H.O.U. If airbags weren't deployed and the car seat doesn't appear to be impacted by the accident, then I'd keep it unless insurance is willing to pay for a new one.

I'm with @T.H.O.U.: , if they are goint to foot the bill, I'd get a new one but if it was minor and the airbags didn't go off, I'd be fine with leaving it as is.

I'm assuming the air bags didn't deploy or anything?

If insurance would pay for it, yes obviously replace it, but especially since there was no child in the seat, I probably wouldn't pay out of pocket.

I was rear ended on the way to work on Friday. I was at a full stop and the car that hit me was probably going around 15-20 mph. She swerved to avoid me and clipped the corner of my bumper. The bumper will need to be replaced, but the car is drivable.

E wasn't in the car with me (thank God!) but his carseat was. Graco recommends that you replace the carseat after ANY accident, but the NHTSA says that you don't have to replace the seat if it was only a minor accident. The other driver's insurance company is coming out tomorrow to assess the damage, but they've already given us some push back about paying to replace the seat.

If insurance doesn't pay to replace the seat, would you still replace it? I'd of course rather be safe than sorry, but it really was a pretty minor accident and I feel silly throwing out a perfectly good carseat, they're not cheap!
