@Foodnerd81: I'm glad it was only a minor incident and no one was injured.
If you file with insurance, most auto insurance carriers will cut you a check to replace car seats and boosters. I know the Hartford does (I worked there in claims when I was 18/19), as well as, Geico. Just make certain to state that there were 2 seats installed at the time of the incident and your young DD was, indeed, a passenger during the accident.

They will both need to be replaced. Neither brand follows NHTSA's minor accident policy, they are both replace after any crash. Insurance may or may not replace depending on the policy, but definitely try to have them cover it.

@PurplePeony: no, we have safe seats in my car, his car is the back up anyway, so we can wait. But I’m fairly certain I’ll need to replace both.

Oh, yeah, they are a bit pricier. Do you need it immediately tomorrow? If not, I’d try to wait until you can talk to CS.

@PurplePeony: ha- the first thing my daughter said when I told DH we would probably have to replace is “can I get a pink and purple one??” But since it’s often empty in his car I would prefer to get one that has latch connectors, which is why we got the one we did- only like $50 maybe.

They’re pretty cheap so I’d probably just replace it if you can’t wait until CS opens. If they say it’s ok and you really don’t need an extra, you can always give the new one to someone who needs it via a Buy Nothing group or something similar. I found one on sale at Target for like $20 awhile ago, so it’s worth checking if she’s not too picky about the color...

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, but here we go anyway-

DH was in a very minor car accident this evening. Our nearly 6 year old was in her Graco turbobooster HBB, and the Chicco nextfit was installed but empty. He was just rear ended but there was some minor damage/ denting to his bumper.

I’m pretty certain we need to replace the Chicco nextfit. Do the same standards apply to a high back booster? Pretty sure the answer is yes- the manual just states if it is involved in a car crash we must replace. But it definitely fits the description for a “minor accident”- no air bags, no injuries, cars were driven away, no damage to the door nearest the car seat (or any doors), and no visible damage to the seat.

Mostly I’m making sure I’m not totally crazy saying we need to replace both, right? It seems wasteful but I take car seat safety seriously.

(Graco customer service is closed- I already tried calling directly).
