Before going home, though, they will spend several weeks in rehab for family teaching. They hope that it will be reversible in a couple of years after all the damage to his trachea and lungs has healed. Ugh. Not the news we were hoping for, obviously. Thanks to all of you for your continued thoughts and prayers. Please continue to pray for little Liam. They attempted another vent wean last week, and again he failed. His vent levels were very low, so they really thought he'd do well off the vent, but alas he desatted and had to be reintubated. They are now thinking there may be something wrong with his trachea. He was just transferred to the PICU at a larger (better-equipped) hospital, where is now sedated and restrained (he was frequently self-extubating). The PICU will try some other "tricks" for vent weaning, but if those fail they will meet with an ENT to discuss surgery! </p> <p>Little Liam is certainly living up to his name - strong-willed warrior! At work, I pump in my hospital's NICU, and I've gotten to know a lot of the mommies in there. Every time I mention that he's still on the vent and has failed multiple attempts to wean, they all have the same reaction. I know it's bad, and now with the pneumonia....really scary place to be. </p>
