Hahaha, seeing this thread just reminded me that I need to respond to one of these. I think the thing that gets me is that these messages increased hugely after I had a baby - it feels like representatives from [BeachBody, ItWorks!, Visalus, Shaklee, etc.] are just preying on new moms who are insecure about their bodies. No thanks.

@MrsKerch: "The key is to genuinely shut it down if it's really bothering you."

This is why it's best to ignore. They are coached on how to reply to a no, so any reply at all gives them an opening to engage. It's insidious!!!

Depending on who it is, I ignore them, or I just say that I have a policy of not participating in anything related to direct sales ever and wish them luck. They are usually willing to leave it at that.

I've ignored in the past but most of these folks are "going for no" to engage you in the conversation and won't let up until they believe you're really not attainable. Having tried to be a Beachbody Coach, I knew this and felt I had to finally respond. The last time a HS aquantance reached out to me about her amazing R + F opportunity, I said the following, which was 100% true: Thank you very much for considering me. I really appreciate that you feel i could be a valuable member of your team. How exciting that you're having such great success with it. It is unfortunately not something that I am able to take on. I attempted to start a side gig with Beachbody last year and was not successful because i just didnt want to give the little bit of extra time that i have outside my career and family to try and grow my business Call it selfish, I even felt a little guilty about it but i had to be honest with myself, I am just not willing to put in the time. Additionally, both my future sister in law and cousin are consultants and I feel obligated to join their team if I were to try and take it on into the future. Thanks again and congrats on all your success."

The key is to genuinely shut it down if it's really bothering you. To those who are successful in these ventures, more power to you. I found that even when it's something that I am incredibly passionate about (health and wellness) it wasn't somethin that I could make myself commit to.

I usually ignore or say sorry, I know soooo many people doing this right now. Once I've been pretty direct and told a friend I was sad she had left her career (the same as mine) for this DS company because we need such great people to stay in the profession even though it is hard.

Good thoughts and suggestions everyone. Some of these comments made me LOL. :) Okay, I'm going to send her a quick message back (it was a personal one to me, not a group one unfortunately) telling her that I'm not interested and I don't feel comfortable supplying info for anyone else.

I haven't gotten too many but I do respond to keep a nice relationship with the person. I would decline a request to provide contact information of all my friends of course. I had to bite my tongue a little when a former neighbor told me I could join her and be able to quit my job and stay home with my son. I was a little offended by that suggestion. I just say thanks but I like my current job, my exercise is playing with my son and I am happy with my current skincare products, etc.

Wait, I forgot -- I have one person on IG who sells that Plexus stuff. I don't even know what it is, but I'm certainly not going to ask. Seems like one of those BS magical weight loss things. Those things (like the wraps, too) particularly piss me off, because I feel like they take advantage of vulnerabilities. There is no magic bullet for weight loss (unfortunately).

I usually ignore it. If I'm added to a group without being asked, I leave. The only group I'm apart of is my cousin's Jamberry and that's only because I actually like Jamberry. I've also unfriended a couple of people who's FB just became one big ad for their product.

I tend to get a lot of It Works! people trying to follow me on IG, so I just ignore them. I kind of hate direct sales because of what they have done to social media.

I can only assume it's because I have flawless skin, naturally luxurious nails, and a bangin body?

I prefer stores not to contact me (I will come to them when I have a need, I promise) - whether direct sell or not. I have an email address for my dog that I give stores. I honestly think Mini Boden, etc spam me just as much as the people on my Facebook feed. Just like I unsubscribe to store emails, I hide anyone who posts about their direct sales crap.

Yes, I've had to say flat out "not interested". I don't mind friends approaching (I get it) - it's the aggressive/disingenuous contact. I haven't talked to you in years or you're a friend of my friends, friend and emailing me to make a buck..? Puh-leeze! I also don't mind when people use/spam their own social media accounts to advertise. Do yo'thang and if the product is good enough it will sell itself.

honestly...I think the recruiting from these companies is what gives direct selling such a bad name.

I do some direct selling - chloe + isabel, which is not an MLM - so I guess I could be biased. But if a friend contacts me to sell (mostly R+F and It Works - those are the reps I find to be the most agressive) I always respond and tell them no thank you. I have found this prevents repeat interaction with them.

The first time I was approach by an R+F rep, I did not respond and just ignored. I found she was reaching back out to me periodically - as if maybe I would become interested. I think "NO" goes a lot further then nothing to get these people off your back.

With regard to being added to groups - I usually just remove myself the first time it happens. If the person repeatedly puts me in their "VIP group" I send them a note and ask that they please remove me from their contact list as I am not interested and why. I have a friend who sells Younique (I buy from a different Younique rep) she would add me to her group weekly - I finally just said that I was buying from someone else and to please remove me. It hasnt happened since.

Unfortunately most of these companies do not teach their merchandisers facebook etiquette. People are on facebook to be friends...not to be sold. I wish more people would follow respectful guidelines and not ruin the direct selling name for everyone...
