DS is 6 months and it's a "hit or miss" with him. Sometimes, he reacts and other times it's he's too busy looking at other things. I would wait another month or so and see if that changes. For us, DS seems to "master" the skills the pedi talks about at his wellness appointments a week or two afterwards.

Thanks for all the replies. They have definitely made me feel better about it.

@cmomma17: @rahlyrah: It absolutely has to do with what's going on around him. If the dog is in the room, forget it.

@NurseMommy: I feel that way sometimes too.

My LO started around 6.5 months, but sometimes it seems like she's almost willfully ignoring me! Lol

I can't remember with Charlie. Maybe it was around 6 months? With Olive it wasn't until 17 months... she was delayed but is almost caught up now.

At that age my LO ignored me sometimes and responded sometimes. I don't think I would worry yet.

@JennyG: My LO (7.5 months) gets really engrossed in his toys and the environment. He doesn't always respond to his name because he is so preoccupied with everything going on around him.

Mine is just now responding to his name consistently at 9 months! If he's into a toy, there's no getting him to respond though! :)

@swedishfish: It's Jackson. In the few days since the appointment, I have been noticing more and more that he doesn't usually look at me when I start talking to him. Like if he's looking a toy and I say his name or start talking to him he keeps looking at the toy. When he does look at me, he gets excited and smiles.

I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing, but it's so hard not to.

I have a just about six month old, and it's hard to tell when she actually looks if she's responding to her name or just to my voice. And when she doesn't, if it's because she doesn't get it or is just too busy.

Hmmm...I don't remember exactly but R probably started responding to her name around 6 months old.

ETA - how long is your LO's name? Just keep trying but don't worry! I know it's easier said than done.

At LO's 6 month appointment, the doctor asked the usual list of development questions which always get me worrying. One of the questions this time was does he respond when you call his name. He doesn't. Since the appointment, I've been saying his name to him lots and lots and I've realized he almost never responds. It obviously has me worried that there is something wrong. When did other LO's start responding to to his/her name?
