We use this Chicco hook on chair as our primary high chair at our kitchen island:
http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/Chicco-reg-360-deg-Rotating-Booster-Seat/1017928090?Keyword=chicco+360

It's one of the few with a really sturdy snap on tray, from what I've seen. I also have a regular hook on one that someone handed down to me, that we use for travel, and the food totally falls in between the table and the chair and is very annoying (we are doing BLW too). It definitely doesn't fold up the smallest, though, and probably isn't the fastest set up of the hook on chairs.

Keep in mind hook on chairs can only be used on certain tables-- you cannot use them on pedestal tables, for instance, and I have had a hard time using it on tables that have leaves or extenders in the middle (have to place it at the head of the table, not the side). I'm considering getting a FP space saver one for times when the hook on won't work, like DH's grandmother's, but haven't decided yet.

We have the same ones as @danda for our kids. Still use them at nearly 2. They roll up and wipe down so easily. Love them.

We use the one Danda linked at my parents. It works good. At restaurants we use disposable plastic ones that stick to the table cause I won't give her a plate she can break yet.

We're doing BLW and this Summer Infant silicone placemat has worked wonderfully for us to dine out with our 8 month old at restaurants. We put the food directly on it and it has a nice space to catch the food which falls (which is 90% of her food right now) so she is able to pick the food up and try again

We loved bringing the Fisher Price boosters to restaurants when LO was too little to reach the table using the restaurant high chairs. They only cost around $20. They don't fold up tiny, but they are pretty compact.

We used these at restaurants and then just put his food directly on the placemat.

Otherwise we also have this booster seat with a tray, but it might be kind of bulky to pack for a cruise?

Would a disposable placemat work for you? I still use these for my 3 yr old - they are great! They had double sided tape so they stick to the table

we're taking a cruise at 10 months and since we're doing BLW, i don't think the traditional high chair they provide (without a tray) is going to work unless we spend the meal handing her a spoon. would you recommend a portable high chair with a tray, or is there such thing as something to keep a plate on the table?
