I didn't have any post partum placenta issues, but I did have two back-to-back d&cs (within two days of each other) due to retained placenta from the first d&c. The concern is the possibility of developing ascherman syndrome and was something I was very concerned about. I was told it is a rare development though, and I did end up getting pregnant before my period even came back. Sorry to hear about your troubles and wishing you a speedy recovery!

My mom a had the same in 1988 but it was diagnosed 2 days PP. She stayed in the hospital for a week and had to have 2 D&Cs.

I understand your concerns about another D&C but I don't think you have many options at this point. Placenta accreta and retained placenta is no joke :bummed: hope the misoprotol works quickly!

My best friend had retained placenta after her first pregnancy - she found out about it at about 8 weeks and had a D&C the next day.

@T.H.O.U.: I think the concern is having two d&c's in less than a year. Were yours close in timing?

@Shantuck: I've had two d&c and was never told there was any risks of having more than one. I had two successful pregnancies after them.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It happened to a friend of mine and she had to have a D&C.

Does anyone have experience with a retained placenta or placenta accreta diagnosed postpartum? After an uptick in postpartum bleeding and expelling large clots at 4 weeks postpartum, I went to my ob for an ultrasound. They observed a piece of placental tissue that was 4 cm long and I've been given some misoprostol to try to get the tissue to expel (presumably this would work with a fragment but not placenta accreta). The doctor said she wasn't too optimistic about it working, though, so I'm also supposed to see a fertility specialist who would likely monitor it and then perform a procedure similar to a d&c with a camera. I had a d&c last December and there is concern that another normal d&c would cause a lot of damage to my uterus. I was just curious about whether others have had similar postpartum diagnoses and how they were ultimately resolved. Also, from my researching on the internet (I know I shouldn't!) it looks like placenta accreta is usually diagnosed before birth. Has anybody else had a placenta accreta diagnosis postpartum?
