My post got lost, but i wanted to let you know i just used retin a on my problem areas between my eye brows and on my laugh lines, rather than spreading it all over my face. I had no flaking at all.

@kml636: @lizzywiz: No amount of moisturizing will stop your skin from flaking . . . it may help it look a little better in the meantime, but it won't stop the flaking (and redness, if you experience that too - I know I sure did!). You really only need to use about a pea-sized amount for your entire face, and start with one or two applications for the first week. If it's tolerated well, then add another application, and so on, until you are able to tolerate a daily application well. And really watch the application around your eye area, nose, and mouth (especially the corners!), as the product will travel into areas close to where it was applied.

@lizzywiz: When you first start using, it, definitely moisturize lots because your skin will flake off. I use it before I moisturize.

Honestly, I am looking forward to using it again because I have bad sun spots. I also used a cream called triluma specifically for that, but it's expensive and not covered by insurance, where as Retin A is.

@MsLipGloss: Yeah, of course I only read the label closely AFTER I had that problem and then saw that it said to avoid putting it around your mouth (and also nose). Typical, haha. I've found the place it's least irritating is my forehead, probably because its the most oily area for me. It can sometimes be a fine line between effective and too much peeling, though!

@MrsSCB: You know that happens because there is so much movement in that area of your face! When you apply it, it actually settles in to your skin a bit and spreads out, so I always kept it just outside of my nose, mouth, and eyes to avoid that! My Derm was kind enough to point that out to me *after* I was a already a flaky mess!

AMEN to the not getting waxed! Learned that the hard way, ouch! I have highly sensitive skin so I can't use it every day. Also be careful how much you put it around your mouth. I've had the corner of my mouth get really dry and crack before. Oh, and I try to just put it on a couple times a week so I don't overdo it :-)

I use it and I'm nursing.... I think topical use is generally considered safe while nursing. My doc said it's was okay, at least...and the research I did said its classified as moderately safe.

I use it nightly for acne scars. I only moisturizer in the morning, with oil. But it sounds like we have very different skin....I skip a night if my skin gets dry, but that only happens if I'm out in the cold a lot

I have not used it on my hands. I had great results with my face, although I haven't used it since mid 2011 (TTC, pg, and then BFing), I used my Tretinoin (Retin A) in combination with a product line called Obagi. I did not use any moisturizer with that system (it is not called for, and I didn't need one even though my skin tends to be drier . . . the products were really emollient). What percentage of RA are u using?

Also, has anyone ever used it on their hands? Lots of sun damage there.

Well first of all, just checking, you know you can't use retinA if you are TTC or nursing, right? I haven't used it in about 2 years because of that but I used it religiously before then.

I would use it at night, up under my eyes especially (I wrinkle most there) and on the sides of my face where I have sun spots. You have to also use a sunscreen with it because it basically peels the top layer of your skin off. Also, DON'T get waxed or you will be sorry! I have had a chunk of my skin come off.

I have spent the last 30+ years pretending I don't have fair, sensitive skin. At some point freckles should merge and form a tan, right? Turns out, not so much.

So, now I have fair, sensitive, wrinkly and blotchy skin.

I have Retin A and I want to start it sloooowly and carefully and maybe with a good moisturizer but it is all new to me, so....

Tell me your Retin A routine!
