LO pretty much just stopped using the nipple shield on his own around five months. He got frustrated waiting for me to put it on and just latched on. Babies know when they are ready. Just keep offering without it occasionally.

How old is he now?
We were on nipple shields forrrrrever! I finally broke the habit a teeny bit at a time by starting a sleepy nursing session (early morning, MOTN, bedtime, etc) with it on, and then sneaking it out a few minutes in. We gradually stopped using them during sleepy nursing sessions, then gradually weaned off them during the day the same way. I forgot who else had success with this who told me to do it that way - Rainbow Sprinkles maybe?

It was around that time that H started getting distracted at the breast. That might be what is going on. I hope you can wean from the nipple shield.

I was in denial for a long time since this doesn't happen all the time, but we are not latching good at all while BFing. Most of the time he just stays on the nipple. I'm still using nipple shields (GRR) so I don't get much pain at all, but he pops on and off and when he's drinking, milk runs everywhere. Also he's getting super fussy at the breast when the milk flow is slower because he's used to the steady flow of the bottle he gets at daycare while I'm at work. I feel like I'm breastfeeding constantly because he won't sit through a full feed without pulling on and off and fussing, so we both get frustrated and stop and end up snacking all day.

I feel like if we can break him from the nipple shield it would help since it would be a clear difference between nipple and bottle, but we've not had any lasting success. :(

ETA: he's 4 months old
