Update. I return to work TOMORROW! I'm a crying mess. I know how good this will be for everyone. I really hate starting a new job with feeling out all the coworkers and such. Thanks again for all the positive comments :)

I work 3 days a week and I think it's great. I thought at first I would miss the time away from my little ones, but I think it's worked beautifully. It gives me some adult time, but then I also get to spend the majority of my time with the kiddies. It really is a perfect balance and the fact that you were able to get a part-time gig is even more wonderful!

4 days a week is awesome! I absolutely love having the long weekend with DD. I never wanted to be a SAHM mom though since I love my job. It's the perfect balance for me. Your week will go by quickly with the mix of being in the office and telecommuting. Being around other adults, having time to yourself to eat lunch and go to the bathroom in peace is awesome! Working keeps me sane and helps me be a better mother and really appreciate my daughter and the time we spend together. Plus, it means that DH has to help you with chores more! ;)

I would LOVE an opportunity where I could work from home one day and then have a full day for my LO. Those opportunities are so rare. I had recently had my one work from home day taken away from me, and I miss it so much. Do it! Your offer is the best of both worlds.

I really like the mix I have with working out of the home and taking care of LO. It's nice to have a very different dimension to life. I feel happy with the time I have with LO after work (I have 1.5 hours from when I get home to when LO goes to bed), plus time in the morning, and weekends are great.

That sounds like an amazing schedule! I always planned to go back to work, but now that my leave is wrapping up I am really struggling with the idea of being gone so much (even to a job I love). One thing that is helping my cope is remembering that nothing is set in stone. I'm going back full time, if that doesn't work for us I can explore part time. If part time doesn't work, I can stay home. So there is no harm in you accepting this position, committing to give it a real shot for 6 months (or however long feels like enough to give it a real chance) and if it doesn't feel right to you, you can make a change.

3x/week sounds awesome!!! You'll still have plenty of time with your kids.

And working is kind of awesome, too. Sharing the financial burden, bringing home some bacon, and being able to have the ability to take your kids really cool places that maybe otherwise you wouldn't be able to afford to! It'll give you a bit of a mental break during the day and I'm sure your girls will have fun with other little kids, too :)

Being an involved parent isn't only a Mon-Fri gig :)

If working was the end of parenting, 97% of dads and 75% of moms would be screwed :)

I have to jump on a conf call, but don't forget, the week is 7 days long, not 5! Don't cut it short!

I returned to work full time, and it's been amazing for my family. I'll post more later.

I started working part time (significantly more part time than you just because of the job that kinda fell in my lap) and it is totally wonderful and to some extent it makes me appreciate my time with my little guy more. Plus a happier mom makes for a happier household. Congrats on the job offer!!!

I can empathize with you. I also work at home and we have two LOs. We just decided this weekend that our 2nd LO will start daycare a few months sooner than originally planned, and I'm kind of sad about it. Our first LO didn't go to daycare until he was 2, and LO2 will be just over 1 year, so in a way I feel like I'm not giving her as much time as I gave him (that said, our job/childcare situation is very different now). But if you have a fabulous opportunity in front of you, and it is really something you want to do, I would jump on it! If you can work from home 1 day and spend 1 day with your girls, that's still a lot of time that you will be able to devote to them while getting back into the workforce with a job you are interested in.

Lately I have been exploring my options about returning to work outside the home. I put my name in to two different places and got a job offer from both of them. After I had my second girl, I assumed I would stay home with them, doing some at-home work with my own small business at least until they were both in school. My youngest is now almost 10 months old and I am considering returning to work.

The one offer I got is too ridiculous to pass up. It would contribute so much to our household. I was so excited and grateful to get an offer. However, I immediately started crying because my dreams of being at home with my kiddos came crashing down. My plan is to start work 3 days/week, work from home one day/week and have one other day to just spend with my girls.

The only point to this thread is some reassurance that returning to work isn't the end of parenting and that I will still get to spend lots of time with my girls. Please tell me your positive stories of returning to work
