I have this same annoying issue :( and my doctor recommended prunes or prune juice. I also eat 2-4 fiber gummies a day.

@hellobeeboston: Yeah, I have NO desire to stimulate early labor even at the expense of my rear end. TJ's fiber bars sound like a safer bet.

@maybebaby: yeah... and MAYBE it is ok? I'm sure if your midwife recommended her she is good.... but the maybe part scares me - I was perhaps overly cautious about things in my pregnancy, but I always felt "better safe than sorry"

@chopsuey119: @hellobeeboston: That's what I was thinking--but it was weird, my midwife recommended this particular woman because SHE uses her, and the acupuncturist specifically said don't worry about the bottle label. I won't take it again until I talk to my midwife, and perhaps not again at all...

@MerryC: Thanks, I will get check those out!! I am not sure--honestly, I should have done more research on her, but since my midwife uses her I just was like OK, sounds good! I will definitely find out more.

I would wait until later in pregnancy to take it too. Preterm labor is scary. Can you talk to the acu more about it? Is he/she licensed? The acu I went to was also a naturopathic doctor, which made me much more comfortable with any supplements. Just a certified acu, I would probably be more wary.

Another tip for regularity - Trader Joes fiber bars! I had NO issues with constipation during pregnancy once I found those puppies ;)

yikes! i would also probably not take it, at least not until much later in pregnancy, like 38 weeks.

maybe there are some other, safer things you can do to help??

No advice, but I wouldn't take it if I were you.. There's a warning on the label for a reason I think..
Just eat prunes for regularity!

I've been going to acupuncture for 3 weeks now at the suggestion of my midwife to help with pelvic pain. I've really enjoyed the acupuncture, and she has helped me discuss some options for my least favorite pregnancy symptom, hemorrhoids:(

She gave me a rhubarb supplement yesterday that she said would help promote regularity and should also help the hemorrhoids situation. She said not to be concerned by the warning on the bottle to not take it during pregnancy.

Flash to today and of course I google rhubarb supplement and pregnancy, and I see in places it says it can cause uterine contractions!? This seems like kind of a scary side effect.

Has any one else been advised to take rhubarb supplement DURING pregnancy and can assure me this is OK? I just don't want to take anything that could spur early labor. Thanks!
