Bumping this to see if there are any new suggestions! I'm 30 weeks today and rib pain is awful! My doctor was very sympathetic (she compared it to a broken rib and said it's really awful) but that basically - nothing to be done and it will likely be here until the baby is here. Yikes!

@PurplePeony: I know right?! Ugh, I hope we get some relief soon. I think it has to do with the abs letting go...I'm just scared to do anything that uses ab muscles for fear it may make things worse. I feel like it's almost worse when my posture is good because it engages my abs (or what's left of them!) I so miss having ab muscles!

My ribs hurt in two ways. First, the baby has been hanging out with its head around my right hip, butt around the center of my belly, and feet jammed under my right ribcage for over a week now. My poor ribs feel so bruised, and even when I try to reposition those little feet, baby just jams them right back in. But I also feel generalized rib pain like what you're describing, and I think it is from things expanding and also because I have no ab muscles left to support my upper body. I've been trying to be really conscious of my posture and it helps some, but it's just too easy to slouch and let everything collapse together, which is when I feel the most pain. I don't know how I can take two more months of this...

@Jennimac: @Foodnerd81: hmm, it really doesn't feel like she's up there! She was head down at my last appt a week and a half ago... I hope this is a passing thing! I know it's worth it though! :)

@californiadreams: interesting... I was thinking maybe it was pressure from my increased boob size and not LO, but that wouldn't go away immediately after delivery! I do have one of those heating pads...I just iced it for a little, but I think I'll try the heat next!

@Lindsay05: ive been trying to do that too. I am hoping that's what it is... I'm so terrified it's rib separation or something!

I have had it with both pregnancies. If I push on the bottom of my rib cage on the right side it feels bruised. I think its just the pressure of all the organs + baby pushing on them. I try and sit reclined as much as possible.

i got a bad cold when i was 39 weeks and i was coughing and blowing my nose so much that all of a sudden it felt like i pulled a muscle under my ribs and then i had the same kind of pain you are describing. It didn't go away, but it got better. I was so afraid of going into labor with that pain though, but once I did, the labor outweighed the rib and i completely didn't notice it. then after the delivery, the rib pain was gone so i guess it had been lingering because LO was pulling weight on it? Oh and when it was most painful I put a heat pack on it, it was a temporary soother. one of those bean bag looking things that you can put in the microwave.

I mostly had rib pain when she was jamming her foot in there (I had to sit with one hand pushing down on her foot to keep it out of my ribs). But with all pains from pregnancy, I found they lasted a few weeks then went away as she moved or grew. I had the worst sciatic nerve pain for weeks, then she must have shifted because it just went away.

I had this. LO was all up in my ribs and she was breech, so her big head was just lodged up there. Unfortunately, it didn't get that much better. :( once everything stretched out, it wasn't as bad, but it hurt up until the end she dropped a little but, but then moved up high again, so I only got a few days of relief. Hang in there! It's worth it!

Anyone else suffer from rib pain in the third tri? I'm currently 31 weeks, and for the past few weeks, my rib area has felt raw - doc says it's tissues and ligaments stretching, but for the past day it has actually grown quite painful! Baby is low, so it's not her feet or anything stuck in there.

Any tips for relief? Or if you had this, can you tell me if it went away after a while? Just wondering if I'm destined to endure this pain the rest of the way :( also wondering if exercising helped or made it worse?
