There's a lot of opinions about feeding babies, in Europe, for example they skip grains and suggest you begin with meat and orange vegetables.

If calories and fat are what you're after, I'd probably look into something like egg yolk.

I disagree with feeding an infant before 6 months. At 6 months we will be feeding DD pureed food.

My LOs first foods were something else (she wasn't interested though), but now she eats 1/2 baby oat cereal and 1/2 "real" oatmeal 2-3 times a week at breakfast. I also make pancakes using baby oat cereal and toddler cookies using baby cereal.

I do all this for added iron for LO and she gobbles it up.

Lo is 7 months and we haven't tried cereal or oatmeal yet. She gets a mix of purees and mushier kinds of table foods. Her favorite right now seems to be yogurt!

We did oatmeal and brown rice cereal since 4.5 months. She has always loved it. It became part of her bedtime routine and she still gets cereal mixed with applesauce or pureed veggies before bed at 17 months. She has low iron so the cereal helps with that too.

Have you tried different consistencies? My daughter never liked it runny, she always preferred it to be thicker.

Neither. We started with egg yolk, then went to avocado, banana, squash, and on from there. D didn't get grains until probably 8 or 9 months, and even then it was oatmeal in a pouch, so it was REALLY pureed.

I make oatmeal for fia! I use the same organic whole oats I eat. I just grind them up in my magic bullet, cook them with some water, and mix in fruit. So far I've tried mashed raw banana and puréed steamed pears with a little cinnamon. She likes both. :)

Babies can't digest grains until their 1st molars are in, so they don't really get anything out of rice cereal or oatmeal besides the feeling of fullness. We started with butternut squash, sweet potato, avocado and scrambled eggs (they've debunked the no eggs before age 1 thing).

Our pediatrician said that solids before age 1 should be for experimentation with taste and texture, not as their primary calorie source. I struggled with pumping when went back to work when C was 19 weeks old, so I feel your pain.

I gave him cereal for a few weeks because I thought it was easiest on his belly and helped him get used to solids, but he never really consumed that much of it. And then I bailed completely after 6 mos because I was sick of him raspberrying cereal everywhere all the time.

He doesn't really take purees, but I do cook his foods in coconut oil and he gets a lot of egg/avocado/fatty foods.

His weight gain has slowed A LOT since 4 mos or so...like he went from 85% to now 45ish. He eats a lot but he's also really active so I dunno.

We did rice cereal, but only because Xander wouldn't eat other purees and it was the only thing he would eat in the beginning. And then we continued it for the added iron.

But if your LO isn't into it, I wouldn't really press it. Doesn't seem like there's a point if she's not going to eat it. I guess you could try mixing it with something she will eat, but again, not sure there's much point.

We did oatmeal, but skipped rice cereal. I mixed it with BM at first, and then with apple puree, banana puree, etc. Maybe just try a tiny bit and then up the amount? But if you're workig on weight gain, it's not like cereal has a ton of calories. You're better off with stuff like avocado, sweet potato, etc and adding oil and butter to the food before you puree it.

Did you feed your baby cereal? We tried it at 4-5 months several times and she wasnt interested. At her 6 month appointment 2 weeks ago, her weight gain has slowed so her ped stressed giving cereal as well as other solids. I was waiting to give her purees until 6 months, which we've been doing and she is hit or miss but she still dislikes the cereal. every time I try she just gags and then eventually cries. My supply isn't the best so pumping just for cereal that she doesn't eat is kind of a bummer. Sooo any suggestions on the cereal? Or did you just skip it a all together? Some days she loves purees, other days she's eh, but I am sure that's normal in the beginning.
