I LOVED my ring sling for the newborn stage. It's all we used. She liked being all cuddled up next to me. And now we are using it a ton again with hip carries. She likes to get up and down, so it's nice that there's little fabric and little work to get her in and out. It took a few tries to get it right, but after that it was smooth sailing. Sleeping Baby Productions has good how-to videos on Facebook. The key is getting them high and tight. Good luck!

Hmm, you guys are giving me lots to think about. Maybe I should go to the local CD store where they have some Sakura Bloom ring slings and try one on and see how I like it before I get too big.

I didn't like the sling for a newborn. I was too paranoid about her head and chin positioning cutting off her airway. I used the boba wrap when she was a newborn.

I didn't really like using the ring sling at all. I watched numerous videos and had someone show me but I still couldn't get the hang of it and didn't like the way it felt to carry LO in it. LO first went in the Gemini when she was about 10 days old for a pediatrician's appointment.

Around the house I preferred wearing her in the Moby and I used the Beco for only when we went out.

I have the Beco Gemini, but LO didn't go in until 8w or so, we used a Seven Sling up to that point, and it was awesome -no experience with a ring sling!

i never got the hang of the ring sling when ds was a baby -- i didn't try too terribly hard, though :). he always screamed when i put him in it! i think i should have begun earlier :)

for me personally i felt the gemini was too roomy for a newborn -- we didn't start using it with him until he was about 2.5-3 months old :) just our experience, though!! :)

I could never get DS2 comfortable in the ring sling as a nb. I stuck with my Boba. I do like the ring sling for older babies though.

D HATED the Gemini until he could face out. If I put him in it facing in, he would scream his face off until he finally passed out. Now that he can face out (3.5 months), he's much more content. I used the sling, and he did much better in that as a newborn.

ETA: It wasn't a ring sling. It was a Seven Everyday Sling.

I'd love to hear about people's experiences with ring slings, particularly with newborns. I have a Beco Gemini, but I'm wondering if for the really early days if it would be easier to use a ring sling?

I'd really like to be able to wear the baby around the house and possibly out for errands. LO's due in November, so I'd like to keep baby close to me and discourage other people from getting too close.
