I personally wouldn't because of the salt content.

I would say go ahead. Seeing how the daycare we went to had to stop giving the kids bagels because they became seen as a choking hazard, if they give them to the kids already it doesn't seem like a problem (plus they melt really easily)

i think that personally i would ask daycare to feed them a different cracker, there's nothing wrong with ritz per say, but maybe in my head i class them under 'junk food' crackers, so would be more wary of it, since i don't plan to give LO yummy junk food till later :)
no judgement though, just what i would do! :D
the texture of ritz would be perfect for that age, though! melty!

@mrs. wagon: Oh, I always hate to hear that! I think the advice to feed your baby bland things is SUCH a bummer. I mean, I guess it's true - babies like what they have. My daughter does reject bland food. I'm fairly strict about not putting cheese on veggies, not always mixing fruit with yogurt, basically not ruining her taste for fruits and veggies. But spice! Flavor! Spice of life and such.

@T.H.O.U.: I have a friend who refuses to give her son goldfish because she says they're so salty! she gives him cheddar bunnies though. haha.

@sarac: I know. I was paranoid that once he tasted flavor, he'd get picky and not want anything that was plain. Little did I know it would lead to him not wanting anything with any sauce or flavor on it!!

That was early for my daughter, she didn't really have the tongue control to deal with crunchy things at that age. At that point I was giving her things that could be smushed between her tongue and the top of her mouth. So bits of bread, soft cheese, stuff like that.

@mrs. wagon: Woah, why???? Kids need flavor!

I did not give Wagon Jr. ritz crackers til he was well over 2! I think I was always afraid to give him anything with salt or flavoring. Poor kid ate nothing but bland, bland, bland.

That was me as a nervous first time mom. Now I get annoyed when he wants to pick the salt off of a ritz cracker. Of course. LMW will be getting ritz crackers from the beginning.

I think from a choking hazard you are probably fine. They really can choke on anything so its a tough call.

The only thing that would concern me is getting her addicted to crackers at a young age. My LO is obsessed with gold fish because of this! I wish we had done better getting her to eat snacks like string cheese, shredded veggies, etc.

I buy the whole wheat Ritz crackers and C LOVES them. She will dig through the diaper bag to find the bag I keep in there. You dont have to break them up because they crumble and dissolve.

I give LO mum mums to snack on at daycare. I feel like Ritz Crackers should easily dissolve, so I don't think it should be an issue.

I gave them to LO at that age..they crumble easily so I wasn't concerned. She gagged on puffs a few times when she ate them too fast.

Daycare mentioned M was showing signs of interest in finger foods so they asked if we wanted them to offer her crackers at meal times. She is getting finger foods at home so I'm not opposed to them. The teacher mentioned Ritz crackers are something they keep on hand to feed the babes.

What do you think? Ritz crackers okay for an 8 month old (obviously broken into pieces)? Or should we stick to puffs and baby crackers?
