We don't have the RnP but have the swing. That is the only place lo will nap for longer than an hour in. It has helped so much.

We have both - if space and finances allow for that I definitely say get them both. The swing is big and pretty much stays in the family room at all times - however the rnp comes around the house with me where ever needed. And DD sleeps in the RNP for her first nap next to my bed - for whatever reason she will not go back into her bassinet after our 6/7am feed. The mild rocking and the slight angle - along with the snuggly aspect all seem to make DD love it.

Also, the RNP is a great option for taking to peoples houses for naps if you dont have a pnp (we dont).

We used our RNP for naps and bedtime with LO until he got too big. He was able to rocked enough to sleep and comfy to sleep in. We got my brother's swing. He was pretty unimpressed with it. We didn't have a sleeping swing. If we had one of those, we might not have relied on the RNP. Also, the RNP was great for travel. It packed up easily in the trunk for visits.

We only had a swing and I'm glad we did..the only place LO would nap for months! And she napped better when it kept moving. She outgrew it on her own, too. By four and a half (ish) months she napped in the crib for the majority of naps. So if I had to choose I'd get a swing again!

We had both. I do recommend both if you can afford it and afford the space/storage for both.

The RnP is like a bassinet except not flat. My son wouldn't tolerate a bassinet so, the RnP, although it does nothing on its own, is awesome. Like a bassinet, but inclined. Also, it was at a great height for rocking it with my foot while watching TV in the evenings and the perfect size to fold and take to grandma's and to hotel rooms.

I didn't feel like storing my swing plus I wanted to try a new brand, so I sold it in-between kids. So, if you are worried about room, you could always sell after using instead of storing for the next couple of years (assuming you want anymore kids).

We are still using both. She will take long naps in the RnP. Yesterday she took a 3.5 hour nap in it. When she's awake though, she prefers being in the swing. I put her in the swing when I need to prep lunch and dinner or do household work.

I think the magic of the RNP is that you can reach out with one finger in the middle of the night and give it a little rock if LO starts fussing, but because it only rocks for a few seconds they don't get super adapted to motion sleep. Plus, they are so portable! We love our swing, too, though, for sleeping when they're fighting it super hard or they're sick or just as a place for happy babies to hang out while you do something that requires two hands. :)

My Lo dislikes the swing, no idea why. But the RnP was where she slept for the first few months and even now that she has started sleeping in the crib she likes to hang out in the RnP in whatever room I'm in. And when she slept in it if she fusse it would start rocking her again.

I agree that on paper swing made more sense, but my kid didn't get that memo.

We use both. Like @Bookish: said, the portability of the RnP is awesome! Whenever we were visiting someone with LO, we'd just put the RnP in our trunk and he would have a spot to hang out when he wanted to nap, needed to be set down when we ate, etc. The swing was also super nice - he loved the mobile, music, and swinging motion, but that thing is heavy and super difficult to move!

@BabyBoecksMom: we have both, my baby much preferred the RNP, its the angle at which the baby lies that makes the difference and its easy to move from one room to another very easily whereas the swing usually stays put. Also the RNP rocks by itself if the baby fidgets or moves around

@BabyBoecksMom: I didn't have a swing, but I wish I had gotten one. The RnP, however, despite being 'human-powered' so to speak, was a lifesaver. Unlike the swing, it is portable enough to pick it up (with LO in, if necessary) and carry/drag between rooms. I LOVED being able to cart her around with me while she napped in it. That being said, I think the swing would have been a amazing on days where she had to be moved constantly to sleep (I can only push a RnP so many times...)

My DD loved both, different movements. She slept in her RNP for hte first 8 weeks instead of a bassinet. She had acid reflux so the slight incline made laying down more comfortable. I swear by our RNP!

I think both were necessary because of her reflux, she needed changes and movement to help her fall sleep.

I see so many people love the RNP, but I don't get it. it doesn't rock on it's own, like a swing, right? So do babies prefer the RNP over a swing?

I didn't have either for DD, so I don't know what to get for #2. I was leaning towards a swing but I'm conflicted now because everyone on here seems to go for the RNP.

Thoughts?
