I know you already made the trip - I hope it went well! I was going to suggest just leaving 30 minutes or so before bedtime, even though it means you will be driving later. You can even do her whole bedtime routine first. Maybe an idea for the trip back? She might transfer better if she's going to her own bed versus Grandma's house anyway.

I haven't done a road trip yet but my LO and I took a two hour evening flight when he was 8 months old. He feel asleep on the plane, woke up, was awake in the car ride to my brother's house. Then I finally put him down for the night at around midnight. He continued to sleep through the night just fine during our visit!

I wouldn't worry too much about keeping her awake, since she's probably wake up when you get to your destination- right? So her nights sleep will get interrupted anyway. Hopefully she will get back on track the next night.

@char54: The last time we traveled with my son he was 6 months. We left an hour before bedtime and he fell asleep a bit early but that was fine. He slept the rest of the ride too... but had issues with transfer. He is really used to his crib and his nursery and going into the pack and play didn't sit well with him. My inlaws were also dumb about things (AKA excited) and tried to overstimulate him while I was trying to calm him back to sleep. It took probably 30 minutes to get him back down again but it worked out in the end and night two was much easier.

I would probably sit with her since it is two hours.... I notice when my son gets extra naps he sometimes doesn't sleep as long over night. 7am is way earlier than you think :)

@char54: FX! The one night we got in earlier than usual and my family was still up. We stayed up for probably 30 minutes or so. I was super worried she wouldn't want to go back to sleep. But she did. Hopefully it goes the same for you!

@locavore_mama: no, bottle feed.. But a bottle usually conks her out pretty good so not worried about that. More worried about everyone being so excited to see her and C getting overstimulated! Oh well, it's just one night I guess. FX it goes better than the disaster I'm planning in my head haha

@blackbird: @Smurfette: thanks :)

@locavore_mama: I am worried about the transfer too... My ILs haven't seen her in 2 months so I know they will want to see her for a bit... I'm hoping to bring her in , have them give a few kisses then bring her right up to bed again. Blah! I wish we could leave earlier in the day .

Whenever we've taken a road trip she'll still typically fall asleep around her regular bed or nap time. So i wouldn't worry about it. I would worry more about if she'll transfer well!

We always left about an hour before her nap so we only had her awake for half the trip. I would keep her awake until 7, then let her sleep. They to keep on schedule somewhat

So we are heading to the in laws tomorrow for Easter, about a 5 hour drive. The last time we did it C was a newborn so pretty much slept the whole time.

Now that she's 7 months old and on more of a schedule, I'm a bit more worried. She currently goes to sleep at 7pm and sleeps until 8am. I don't want to mess with that glorious schedule!

We can only leave at 5pm tomorrow and she usually falls asleep in the car very easily. Should I sit in the backseat and try to keep her awake until 7, then stop and give her a bottle and let her sleep until we get to our in laws at 10pm? Dh thinks I should just let her fall asleep at 5 and sleep the whole way.

What do you think is best? I really worry about messing with her recent STTN successes. Please tell me babies are more adaptable than I give them credit for!
