@macintosh: I would consider keeping the infant seat if it still fits size wise. Usually they have a bigger recline for sleeping and when you stop it's easier to carry in and out if needed. But you'll have to move soon anyways.

For BLW ordering a sweet potato is great as needed!

@macintosh: We keep it in the car! Then we have it when we need it. Otherwise I'd never remember.

Big binder clips to close the curtains or to clip a towel over a window. Daylight is the demon to our nap schedule. At the last hotel we were at they had these dumb curtains that were for show. They didn't actually close. So we had to clip them together and clip a towel to the top
We love the inglesina lobster high chair
Noise machine
Doggie bags for tying up stinky diapers so your hotel room doesn't smell gross
Foods: you can nuke sweet potatoes and Baby carrots. Mum mums. Pouches in a pinch (we do sort of a hybrid of BLW and purees ). Frozen waffles. Yogurt if you're doing dairy.

@macintosh: we do a very long road trip every year and I am so glad that first time we did it, he was still in the infant bucket seat. I could go in, change him, put him back in the seat, use the restroom, wash my hands, etc. When he moved to the convertible, it was much trickier if I didn't have DH to pass LO off to.

Puffs are a lot bigger than Cheerios so they are easier to pick up if you are just starting blw. They are also a lot less dense and just kind of dissolve. My go to for travel for that age was a reusable pouch plus pouches to fill it (the one I have he couldn't squeeze all over himself because it has a one way valve) and cheese sticks and puffs.

@macintosh: puffs and Cheerios seem to be pretty much the same. They are each fortified with different vitamins, forget which had more of which, but I want to say Cheerios had more iron which my Lo was low in?

For BLW I always just fed them whatever we're eating, so Turkey, potatoes, bread, waffles, soft fruits, french toast, etc. We travel a lot and never bring anything at all besides clothes and carseats and a stroller/carrier. We just make do on all the rest! Every hotel has pack 'n plays, you can usually get high chairs or just hold baby. We shower them or do a quick sink bath.

@macintosh: bananas avocados apples... And cheese in a cooler... Agreed with others you can make do without a tub. We also have the fisher price cheapo portable high chair that attaches to any chair and it's been great everywhere.

@Foodnerd81: yeah he's not eating that much, but it does give him something to do when we eat. We're also having thanksgiving dinner in the hotel room (it has a kitchenette) so I'd rather not hold him the whole time. I wonder if the hotel would have a restaurant high chair we could borrow.

@Foodnerd81: I haven't tried puffs yet, but he might be able to pick those up soon. Is there a reason why I wouldn't just get Cheerios? I will totally buy prepackaged teething biscuits and punches. He won't eat it from the pouch yet, I just pour some in a bowl. What feeding gear do you like?

@macintosh: now I'm thinking- at 6.5 months is he even eating a lot? If he's only eating like one solids meal a day it's pretty easy to just hold him in your lap. And if you are visiting family they will probably want to hold him too, right?

@macintosh: this is the one my mom has, though in sure there are similar ones out there from other brands. It folds so it's a little bigger than, say, a shirt box. Being all plastic it's easy to clean too. We also have a hook on chair but I never bring anything but to restaurants and just use their high chairs.

Oh and I found BLW foods for traveling to be challenging. Prepackaged stuff like crunchies and puffs aren't the healthiest but make life easier. And pouches if he will eat them- we did some purées and mostly BLW. She wouldn't eat a pouch without making a gigantic mess for a long time though.

@erinbaderin: I considered doing sink baths, but this kid is the size of a 12 month old already, he might not fit! It's not like he needs a bath every night though, so I could shower him off. Do you really take the clip on chair out to restaurants? I can't see myself remembering to bring it. Good ideas about testing the new car seat, in planning to pick one up today and install ASAP.

@Foodnerd81: I have an ingenuity floor seat that can be used as a booster (it straps to the chair), but it's kind of big to stuff in the minivan. Good idea on the sound machine, though he doesn't exactly sleep great at home in the first place :bummed:

A hook on chair is handy if it works with the table- you can't use them on pedestal style tables or on glass table tops. Or you can find very inexpensive booster seat type high chairs that can attach to a regular chair- my mom has one at her house that was about $20 and c could use it from when she was sitting up well.

For bath- could you just do bath at your parents house? Seems easier than getting an extra tub. Or shower with him?

I would just say bring whatever it takes to make your hotel as similar to his home sleep environment as you can- sound machine, etc.

We took my son on a road trip at 4 months and just bathed him in the bathroom sink - it worked fine since it was only a few nights. I've found that we've used it travel high chair a lot (we have the Phil and Ted one that clips to the table), not just to trips but for restaurants and stuff as well.

Also take some drives with the car seat before the big one - we went from bucket seat to convertible for a 4 hour drive and it was a big mistake, B was confused and couldn't get comfortable and cried the whole way.

We're traveling by car for Thanksgiving to my mom's house, it's a 6 hour drive that I've done myself before, but never with my DH since his accident (in his wheelchair) and definitely never with an infant.

DS is 6.5 months old and he does well in the car. He naps if he's tired and DH sits in the back with him anyway so that helps. I plan to make a few stops so I think it will actually take us 8 hours. I'm upgrading him to a convertible car seat and I'm brining our new G-lite and the Pack n Play.

I use formula so I plan to premake bottles and keep them in a cooler pack. The hotel room has a dishwasher and I can do a load of laundry at my mom's.

Any tips for me? There are a few things that I'm considering getting, but not sure I'll need them: Travel high chair, inflatable tub (cause hotel has a roll in accessible shower, no tub), ready to feed formula. What are your favorite on the go foods for an early BLW baby?
