We did 3.5 hours when Lo was 2.5 months old.
I swear that trip made me want to invent something that would allow me to pump straight into her mouth. :D

@PrincessBaby: I love Charleston! My dad went to the citadel. My parents are now retired in nearby Savannah, GA. I love that area. I can't wait till DH and I retire and move south. :)

We just drove from DC to AL and back for Christmas. Our lifesaver was driving through the night. LO slept the entire way. Though, she's 8 months old. I think if she were much younger it would be easier to go during the day.

I think it's easier to travel when they are little like that because they sleep more. We have traveled quite a bit with our LO and it was MUCH easier when he was a little guy. Now that he's 7 months old he's still okay to travel with but he doesn't nap for as long as he used to. My only advice is plan your trip based on naps, so right before you leave, feed LO, so they will nap and then base your stops on feed schedules.

@Mrs. Jacks: We did 16 hours, too, with a toddler and a 3 month old. It was great, actually!

OP - Go for it! It should be fine. :)

@PrincessBaby: We were stuck in traffic for like 2.5 hours going to my sisters and coming home. He slept the whole way there, and was calm on the way home after I stuck my boob in his mouth lol.

We travelled about that distance when LO was 6 weeks old and she was fine, they are super easy when they are little like that. Also, I too have done the carseat nursing move, it gets the job done!!

@hilsy85: lol, I'm going to have to practice! She will fall asleep (although she has also been known to scream bloody murder if she feels like it!)....But the longest she's ever been in the car is like 15 mins one way to the dr. We haven't ventured out much. So I don't know how she'll tolerate it! How long did you guys travel?

I looove Charleston, SC! so beautiful..

I'm subscribing because I'm wondering the same thing. I'm in Boston and my cousin is getting married in NC. DH can't go but I really want to. My cousins that live in NC drive up twice a year to see us. I'm the same that I don't want a layover flight, so I'm wondering as well if a road trip with a baby (toddler for me, DS will be almost 2 this fall!) is do-able.

ETA: when DS was 4 months we went on a 6 hour trip and he slept the whole way!

I think you could totally do it, esp if you plan to stop halfway through for the night. How does H do in the car now? Does she fall asleep? And I totally did the whole boob over the carseat thing over Christmas while stuck in traffic, lol--I felt so bad ass!

Anyone take a road trip with a very little baby and live to tell about it?

We live in FL, and we're building in Charleston, SC...We need to get up there early Feb to finalize interior choices. H will have had her 8 week shots by then, but there are no direct flights from here so we'd have to layover in Atlanta- which I hate when I travel alone, much less with a small baby! So we're thinking of driving it- 8.5 hours...But splitting it in half and stopping at a hotel for the night.

Is this plan crazy?

It'd be nice if I could lean a boob over the carseat the whole way...I'd be a lot more confident things will go smoothly, lol
