@Mrsbells: well that's definitely getting your money's worth! That's awesome it has lasted that long!

@wheres_c: I've read about the flat head issue on the amazon reviews, and they seemed to suggest that some of the newer ones were better, but I couldn't really verify it. This is why I was thinking she'd sleep overnight in the bassinet and nap in the RnP. But then people are saying they didn't feel comfortable with their LOs sleeping in the bassinet...sigh! You'd think anything meant for baby to nap or sleep in would be safe, ugh!

I highly recommend getting a RnP also. I have the basic one from Target and use it a lot. My baby was very comfortable in it and took long naps in it.

I had the regular rock and play and loved it. I also had the UBV and I personally was really paranoid she would suffocate on the sides (I felt this way about every bassinet, not just UBV).

We used the basic rock and play and our LO ended up with plagiocephaly (flat head) and he had to wear a $3000 helmet.
Our pediatrician said a flat surface would have been less likely to cause this and told us to stop using it.

I'm not saying it causes it, but I believe it contributes to it....just do a little research and see what you think.

As far as I know we just have the standard rock'n'play. - no vibration or anything. It was such a lifesaver. M slept in it for all nights and naps for the first 5 months. First we had it next to our bed and then moved it to the nursery. I loved being able to rock her to sleep in it and then just tiptoe away. There's nothing like spending an hour soothing your LO and then having them wake up when you transfer them to the crib and we didn't have to worry about that.

@JoJoGirl: haha! yea, i guess i should be prepared for the fact that i can't prepare for any of this ;) baby's gonna do what she wants!

@LazyLightning: interesting...so i guess our best bet is to at least try to have her sleep in the bassinet at night.

@MamaMoose: ah ok...i guess i'll have a better idea of my comfort level once it is all set up and baby is here!

I got the basic RnP and LO barely used it. She slept in Pack N Play until 7 weeks, then crib.

Edited to add: she was in NICU for a week and upon her release, the neonatal Dr asked us what we were going to do for sleep and specifically said for night sleep, 'have her sleep on a flat surface, not a rock n play or swing'.

@Pirouette: I'm pretty sure the UB Bassinet is technically approved for night time sleep... for some reason I just wan't comfortable with it. I was afraid she would get smooshed at the edge of the mattress and the sides of the bassinet aren't breathable. I think it will really just depend on what makes you, your husband, and your baby comfortable.

@MamaMoose: we have this one also. We've transferred R to her crib for the majority of night sleep but she usually ends up in the RnP after her wake up. She can put herself to sleep in it whereas she can't do that in the crib yet. I love the RnP!

I hate to say it, but it depends on the baby! We bought a PacknPlay for sleeping and naps AND had an UBV bassinet AND a bouncer seat, and LO refused to sleep in any of them! We ended up with a Rock N Play and she still only sleep in it at almost 4 months. We are working on getting her into the crib now.

@Foodnerd81: yea, we can always buy the stand but not set it up right away until we know if she likes sleeping in the bassinet. I feel like the rock n play will get a lot of use and is a good purchase, and i feel better knowing we don't need to go with the deluxe and can save $ on that!

@Pirouette: also if your baby has reflux or spits up a lot the RnP is recommended. But I read the UB bassinet is totally sAfe for night sleep too. You could have both on hand and return whatever doesn't work for you.

@Foodnerd81: it's true, the stand is almost as expensive as the rock n play! hmm...maybe i should be rethinking that instead of the RnP - the RnP sounds more worthwhile.

It was great to move from room to room. We took it with us traveling, so didn't have to bring the Pack n Play. At 5.5 months I can still put her in it, strapped in, so she can hang out while I get dressed.

If you get the Rock and play, I think the basic is fine. My baby sleeps great in it but she probably would sleep in the bassinet from the UB too. I figured a stand for the bassinet cost the same as the RnP so I use that. I do love how easy it is to move from room to room!

We got the deluxe snugabunny Rock N Play (there was no vibration). She slept in that at night and for most naps. I was never comfortable with my LO sleeping in the UB bassinet for night sleep when I couldn't supervise her.

So we are getting the Uppababy vista, and hope to use the bassinet (with a stand) for sleeping for the beginning before transitioning to her crib. I'm also planning on registering for a bouncer instead of a swing because of space concerns. I was going to register for the rock n play as well, but am wondering if we'll use it. Is it better for daytime naps than the bassinet (i realize there's a chance she'll hate the bassinet)? i do like that it's portable and i can bring it from room to room easily.

I'm also struggling with which rock n play - we're registering on amazon and there are so many! i can't see whether there's a big difference between the "deluxe" and the regular one, and then there's one that is deluxe and vibrates, and then i find myself wondering if a bouncer is really necessary...sigh!

SO...which rock n play do you have? and do you like it? do you wish you'd gotten something else?

(ETA i was going to do a poll but realized it was 2 different questions so decided not to...but i can't seem to delete the poll section of the post!)
