@prairiemama: I'll just chime in and say the rock n play isnt recommended for night time sleep. Babies should always sleep on a firm flat surface at night ad not in a swing or rock n play. A baby can slump over or get their face smushed into the head cushion.
Having said that I understand the frustration when your baby isnt sleeping, I have an 11 week old and I barely get any sleep at night

A slept in the RnP for about 3 months. I was TERRIFIED of the crib transition because my nephews' transitions were pure hell, but she transitioned with no trouble whatsoever. Glad you're seeing an improvement in sleep already!

I'm tempted to b get a RnP now after rewarding this. What's the difference in position between the RnP and a swing or mamaroo?

I loved the RnP for DD. We used it exclusively for sleep both naps and nighttime for the first 8-10 weeks. I then slowly transitioned her into packnplay for naps so she got used to sleeping flat and she was in her crib over night at about 10-12 weeks (before I went back to work). It all went pretty smoothly. The first few naps in the PnP were shorter than usual and her first two nights in the crib didn't last all night (but that was more me bringing her into my room to nurse and putting her into the RnP instead of just taking her back to the crib)

I agree that a RnP is probably safer than (possibly unintentional) co-sleeping with exhausted parents!

Our experience was similar to most. LO slept pretty well in the RnP (not great but not terrible, and better than a flat surface for sure) but the crib transition was horrible. I'm hoping this time around to use the Halo Bassinest and do the RnP only for naps but we'll see. It's pretty awesome so if we have to, we'll do it again! It's just so hard to get them used to sleeping flat after the RnP.

Well, we've had the Rock n Play for 4 days now and I have to say I have been enjoying 3/4 hours of solid sleep since we've had it! Miraculous. I'm still wishing my baby would sleep flat, but I feel this is a much safer option than having her sleep in my arms all night! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and opinions. We're going to transition her to the crib around 12 weeks, so she's got 6 weeks to enjoy sleeping in this lovely contraption!

My son slept in it at night only for almost 12 weeks. We recently (a little over two weeks ago) switched to the bassinet and he hardly seemed to notice. I think it probably helped that he was laying flat for naps though...

I am going to be 100% honest, my LO loved the rock n play for night sleep (not for naps though) and it was such a great thing to have for the first 3 or so months. She slept fairly well for a newborn at night while we used it.

And then when she started to grow out of it, we tried to transition her to a flat surface and all hell broke loose. She started waking more, and more, and more, and then she wouldn't go back to sleep sometimes for hours, and DH and I were losing our minds. It was so much worse than when she was a newborn. We went through 2 months of this before finally sleep training.

I don't know if the somewhat easier early months were worth it. LO2 is arriving soon and honestly I am going to do everything in my power to get him sleeping in a bassinet instead of a rock n play.

DD slept in the rock in play from 6-12 weeks. She wouldn't sleep laying flat and I was done with co sleeping. I would have let her sleep in it longer but she started rolling over. The first night I put her in it she slept 4 or 5 hours. I love that thing!!!

Both of my kids slept in the rock n play at night and for naps the first 5/6 months!!! Loved it. Neither of mine had flat spots.

Transition was pretty easy for both. Started doing naps in the crib, then transitioned to night time sleep at around 6 months in crib. This was around when they could sleep on their tummies and that seemed to make the crib better.

Both of my girls slept great in the rock n play as babies. In my mind, it was much safer than 😴 my in the recliner. We transitioned them to their cribs at 10 weeks so they could adjust before I went back to work. DD1 switched without skipping a beat. DD2 had two days with an extra wake up or two.

Love love love the rock and play for night time sleep! Used it for my first with great success. However I've always been paranoid about SIDS and so I researched everything and decided to splurge on the halo bassinet for my second. Well he hated it!! Broke out the trusty rock n play and saw an immediate improvement in sleep. The only hiccup is when they have to transition out of it, but it is still worth it for those early days!!

I LOVED the rock-n-play for night sleep. It was a minimal risk in my mind... not as perfect as a flat crib, but way better than exhausted mom falling asleep with babe in arms or in bed. We transitioned early, too, around 4 months during the sleep regression (figured that sleep was horrible anyway at that point, why not change things up?). We even sprang for the automatic rock n play, so sometimes if I didn't think LO needed to be fed, I would just roll over and hit the rocking button and it would rock him back to sleep..... ahhhhh how nice. Why don't cribs come with that feature, lol.

The Fisher Price rock n play is finally available in Canada! (it was previously unavailable as we have super strict(sometimes ridiculous) laws about safety and apparently they can cause flat heads/torticollis if used too much or something along the lines of that)I have read countless blogs where mamas sing the praises of this thing for nighttime sleep. I was so excited to see I can finally purchase one! I'm desperate-my 5 week old DOES NOT sleep flat for longer than 30 minutes, so I spend most of the night awake-sleeping with her on my chest. She has a bit of reflux, and is currently a bit stuffed up with a cold, so I know that is part of the problem, but it has been like this since day one. We have done some chiropractic adjustments, which have helped. The first time we went she slept 3 hours that night! It was a miracle. Then, she got sick and we are back to square one. Her pack n play mattress is elevated. She sleeps great in her mamaroo during the day. I have read that the transition to the crib after the rock n play can be difficult. At this point I'm willing to take that. I really need her to sleep on her own in between feedings for a least SOME of the night. Looking for opinions/advice! Anyone care to share their experiences? I seriously want to go pick up one tomorrow if there's even a small chance it could help us for awhile. My 3 year old wouldn't sleep in her bassinet around this age, but she would sleep in bed with me, so we co-slept until she was about 8 weeks old. My baby won't even do this for very long. Thanks in advance from a mama who would really like even an hour of sleep without baby attached to me. (I should add-my husband is on paternity leave with me until January, so I get 2 naps in to make up for the no sleep at night!)
