ummm I feel crazy admitting this reading these responses.... we kept him in the cosleeper until 6 months before moving him to the crib! He was definitely ready and rolled over the first night basically saying "this is the life". whoops.

DS1 transitioned to crib in swaddle at 16 weeks. Swaddle weaned a few weeks later once he was rolling.

DS2 tried to transition at 4m and it was bad. Up every 30 min bad. He is a spitter upper not sure if that was why. So we waited a month and put him in the crib swaddle free cold turkey. One really bad night but was more or less back to normal sleep in a few nights.

We didn't move E from the R&P to his crib till 4 months... his sleep was so horrible, up every couple hours I was hesitant to do it because I'd actually have to get up to get him. :)
BUT he slept SO much better once in his crib, we still only got 4 hour stretches for awhile, but it was great. We did some sleep training the first few nights and after that no problems.

I made several posts on this in the last few months because we were dealing with this too.

We tried moving him to the crib around 12 weeks. We started by moving his RnP to his room. He slept there for 3 nights just like normal. Then we started the crib transition with nighttime sleep. We used a crib wedge and also used towels to make a "snugglenest." We tried it for 3 nights and made no progress towards decent sleep. So we changed the plan to naps only, and nighttime sleep still in the RnP. His naps were at least decent, so we stuck with naps in the crib and nighttime in the RnP for a while. He just didn't seem ready for crib at night.

Sometime around 17 weeks or so he seemed to be getting increasingly uncomfortable in the RnP, so we tried the crib again at 18 weeks, and it worked! He slept even better in the crib than he had been in his RnP for the last few weeks before that. I was worried for a very long time about making sure I transitioned him early enough, but we really just made it harder on ourselves because he had his own schedule and transitioned beautifully once he was ready!

We were bad. Didn't switch him until about 16+ weeks. He slept SO great in the RnP. We started with naps. Then for nights I put the RnP in his room. Put him in his crib to start right after nursing. When he woke up crying I moved him back to RnP, first night he did an hour in crib, next night was 2 hrs, then he did 4-5hrs, etc. just took about 4/5 days and he was in crib full time. It helped that he could roll and he liked to sleep on his side/belly at that point. Maybe not the best method but it worked with little stress for us!

We moved her at 8 weeks from the RNP to her crib. We just pulled the plug one night because she was such a noisy sleeper we weren't getting any sleep. So I swaddled her like I always did and let her fall asleep on me and moved her in the crib. She had no problems at all and continued sleeping through the night.

We moved LO from the rock n play in our room to his room at about 10 weeks. We kept him in the rnp for less than a week in his room before moving him to the crib. He did fine (at night)! (naps by then were a disaster but that's another story). I did create a sort of nest in his crib, though, using towels under the sheet to kind of snuggle him and mimic coziness of the rnp.

In the R&P pretty much from day one she would go to bed between 9 and 10 and wake up once over night and then up at 7ish. At three months we started naps in the crib. DDis a terrible napper and nothing changed so pulled the plug for nighttime. It was a disaster into battles to get her down and up 3-5+ times a night. We gave up and put her in a regular flat bassinet in our room and sleep improved slightly but never returned. Now at 5 months we got her in her crib in her room. there is the occasional night she revisits her one wake up but most nights are around 3 wake ups. Still wAiting to bounce back! (Sorry if I don't have the most successful story!)

When and how did you do it?

DD is 7 weeks tomorrow and sleeping great in the RNP at night (generally 10:30-4:30 and then back to sleep til 8ish), but I don't want to wait too long and then have a tough transition to the crib.

DS slept in the nap nanny until 3.5 months until we put him in the crib and swaddle weaned cold turkey, which went surprisingly well. But I'm not sure I want to risk waiting that long again!
