They are either confused or lying to get on the news. It is a hydraulic one that has a light that turns on when it is properly locked. It sounds like the link mechanism failed mid ride at no fault of the ride operator. </p> <p>That being said, I feel absolutely terrible for the family! That is never how you expect a trip to a park to go! I am grateful I ride roller coasters right now because it will give me time to get over that fear of it happening to me. My heart breaks for that child that had to him mom die and for the entire family now has to deal with this loss. </p> <p>I live right by this park and I have to say, it is eerie seeing all the rides shut down. When we go to theme parks we make sure we ride them all. I know it is unlikely that any one else will die from falling out of a ride, but I'm going to be very nervous next time I'm on one.</p> <p>When I was a teen I was on a ride at Six Flags over Georgia. I think I was too skinny for the harness to be tight enough and I felt like I was going to fall. Ever since then I ask the attendant to press the harness tighter when I get on rides.
