Thank you everyone!! I try to encourage it but she will play on her tummy until she gets tired and then cry until we flip her over. I have even let her cry for a bit to see if she'll do it but she just gets angrier. She can definitely sit if she has assistance. I guess my worry was how come she could do the "harder" roll first ha!
Thanks again!!

@nugget16: My kid did the same, around 6 months also. My advice is to not worry at all- books and online resources were pretty detrimental to me in his first year as all I did was compare him to what is normal and fret when he took longer to do things. Babies 100% do what they want when they are physically and mentally ready and truly there's very little we can do in terms of developmental milestones!

DD did back to tummy first, and it was a month or two until she got tummy to back. She hated being on her tummy, so she just complained rather than trying to roll.

I have read in the past that babies usually roll tummy to back first because it takes more muscles to roll back to front. I would not worry at all. Mine also rolled back to tummy first, was never interested in rolling tummy to back and I only remember him doing it a couple of times. He hit all his other milestones no problem.

Like PP, I wouldn't worry too much either.

My DS rolled from back to tummy ~4months but didn't roll from tummy to back until ~7months and he would get upset bc he was stuck on his tummy. He army crawled around 7months and that was his way of getting around. Although he was able to go from tummy to back eventually he never used rolling as a way of getting around.

My Dd however also rolled from tummy to back first and mastered rolling ~6 months and hay is her method of getting around now at 9months and still can't crawl yet.

I wouldn't worry. My DS2 just started to roll regularly and he is about to turn 7 months. Our pediatrician said that if he wasn't rolling by 8 months, then she would want us to look into early intervention services.

Is she a bigger baby? My DS2 is huge (23lbs) so I think he was just really solid in his tummy time. He never wobbled so he didn't roll that much until recently.

My daughter didn't even roll at all until 6.5 months and I was starting to think she never would. Didn't ever do it accidentally. Anyway when she did it it was also back to tummy first. We had her sitting assisted around 5 months and by 6/6.5 she could sit unassisted if we put her in that position.

Sometimes it can just take a bit longer to flip from your tummy to your back for some reason.

I don't think that makes her behind in milestones whatsoever and they're all ranges too. (Some kids don't crawl and just start pulling up and walking). It doesn't necessarily always matter for some things to either be done out of order or just skipped. Sitting is building her core strength so it is probably going to aid in the rolling!

Our second rolled back to tummy first too. I was so confused. It wasn't until right before she turned 6 months that she started consistently doing tummy to back. Especially if she's sitting, it sounds to me like she's right on track.

My 6 mo daughter has consistently been rolling from BACK to TUMMY for over a month now but hasn't mastered rolling from TUMMY to BACK...all the articles I read online say that this is usually by done in reverse order!??? I "think" I mentioned it at her 6 mo well check and the Dr didn't seem concerned but I just don't want to be behind the milestones. I do actively encourage rolling back over during playtime. Thoughts??? Suggestions??? She has also almost mastered independent sitting so I feel confused if she's behind her milestones or not. Thanks!!
