@Modern Daisy: We have been doing so much tummy time in the last few days in hopes of getting her better at rolling over, but she hasn't rolled either way during the day all week. Just had to roll her over again, second time in this short nap, and I realized she spit up on her sheets (she always spits up during tummy time, so no surprise). I just put her down further down in the crib and hope she doesn't scoot back up... bad mom?

Yup, DS does this too! Thankfully it only happens when he wakes up because he's hungry anyway so thus far it hasn't added any MOTN wakeups. But he gets stuck on his belly and screams his little heart out :(

We went to the Pedi last night and she said to give him more tummy time. He hates tummy time, but he's behind in his motor development since we've been avoiding it..

She finally rolled back over to her back in the crib! I watched it on the monitor and she did it twice. Then she rolled to her tummy again and couldn't remember how to switch.

So, falling asleep during this leap just takes a really long time, huh? Her night time sleep is about the same as usual (2 wakeups) but naps are taking forever for her to fall asleep-- not crying usually, just fussing, rolling about, talking-- and are shorter.

We've just hopefully gotten over this - it took about 3 weeks. It was pretty rough for the first week or so.
Most often she'll just settle on her tummy now, but before she'd cry and we'd have to come rescue her.
She's rolled back onto her back a few times, but she was 1/2 asleep when she did and she doesn't seem to remember how to do it when awake.

@wonderstruck: I'm not too worried about suffocation, but she gets mad being stuck an won't go back to sleep. We've been doing lots of tummy time during the day but she hasn't even come close to rolling either way while we are playing.

@Foodnerd81: If he was crying or I was in there anyways for a feeding, I would roll him back. But if he didn't need anything and didn't seem unhappy about it I would just leave it.

I think there were about 3 days where I kept rolling him back over because I was so worried about suffocation risks. Eventually I gave up because he wouldn't stop and I needed sleep!

@Foodnerd81: We would go in and flip her until she figured it out... otherwise she would FREAK and not be able to go back to sleep. Lasted about a week for us, even though it felt like the end would never come!

Until your babies figured out how to roll back, did you just go in and turn them and leave again? She did it twice last night, but the times were pretty close to normal feeding time or wake up time anyway, so I went and fed her and put her back. She just did it as she was settling down for her nap and I went in, rolled her back, and left. Seems to have worked, for now...

The funny thing is I have yet to see her actually roll onto her tummy, either on the monitor or in person while we are playing on the floor. We've got the thick foam play mat out under her blankets so she won't hit her head if she eventually does roll.

Eta- the foam tiles are on the floor for playtime, not in the crib!

yup, for us it only lasted a few days til they figured out how to roll back!

We spent about 40 minutes working on rolling while she was awake, so we'll see what happens! I sort of feel like I did when I taught my dog to roll over-- is that wrong?? :)

totally happened with charlie, but didn't last more than a week if i remember correctly. they figure it out pretty quickly! :)

olive didn't start rolling over in her crib until she had mastered it for months so we never had that problem with her.

I think it took about a week, two tops - it was around the same time he discovered sucking on his thumb. Eventually he decided that he prefers sleeping on his tummy. He still gets stuck (well, kind of - he knows how to roll back over but hates doing it) but it's pretty rare that he gets upset about it.

I am not going to say something very positive, but it was our experience.....

rolling and getting stuck became a phenomenon for like 3 weeks, it wrecked her sleep and felt worse than newborn days at times. I was very frustrated because it felt so backwards. Things did get back to normal, but it was a tough few weeks :)

@Foodnerd81: Still happening. Although, twice last night he rolled to his back on his own. He is *capable* of rolling back but, for some reason, is not *willing* to roll back! I'm assuming it is because he is sleepy and impatient. It is so frustrating!

I will say that the past two nights he has spent much more time actually sleeping on his belly. At first, he would freak out that he was on his belly at all. Now, he only freaks out when he wakes up and wants to kick/play/spin around like an idiot and cannot do so without rolling over.

These kids. Just when you think you have them figured out :)

Haha I'm optimistically putting this in Milestones instead of baby sleep :)

So last night, C rolled back to tummy for the first time ever- aw yay! Only problem is it was at 11 pm and she got stuck that way until I came and flipped her back and she was so worked up I had to feed her and nurse back to sleep. She did the same thing at 7:30 this morning.

So my question is- after your baby started doing that, how long until it stopped waking them (and you) up?

Silly baby. Today is tummy time/ rolling tummy to back boot camp.
