Aw... hang in there. I think it's all part of learning new things for them. At least it was for both my boys as infants. Hope he gets comfy with it soon and sleeps better. My husband used to freak out whenever our boys (as babies) would sleep on their bellies. Thank goodness for video monitors! :)

@Andrea: we are here too.
I stuggled for weeks trying to figure out why my son was waking up all of a sudden. Well, yeah turns out the common denominator in all his wakings is that he is on his belly and he is FREAKING out. Ah...Just roll over.
I hope this is a phase. Maybe i'll invest more time during the day to teach him how to roll back over. I thought he could, but apparently not.

LO would roll on her belly and wake crying too.. I would have to flip her and she'd fall back asleep.
She got used to sleeping on her belly and eventually realized she can roll back over.

E rolls over constantly, except that he hasn't learned to roll from his tummy to his back yet nor has he figured out how to turn his head to the side and go to sleep. So he's left propping himself up on his arms or faceplanting into the mattress. I was so paranoid he'd faceplant into the mattress and smother himself. If we went in to roll him back to his back he would immediately roll back over to his tummy... goofy kid. We ended up tucking him into a blanket that is tucked under the mattress, like a bedtime seat belt. It's worked really well for us so far.

My son did this for a good 2 months (except he was a belly sleeper) and has just recently started getting himself where he wants to be. I always helped him back to his belly because he'd really wake himself up crying. He'd go through days where I'd have to flip him like 6 times at night. But it gets better.

Lily has done this since she was like 3 1/2 months! It is weird, because I know she can roll off of her belly during the day. She woke up screaming on her belly last night. I would let her sleep on her belly, but she screams! Silly babies!

They say that even though they roll onto their bellies to sleep you should put them in the crib on their backs the first year for SIDS. Buttttt I'm a bad mom and put him in last night on his back and he started rolling immediately so I helped him onto his belly and he went right to sleep. Oh well, sleep won at 2:30 am :(

@winniebee: I hope both baby and husband get used to him sleeping on his belly soon!

M does this exact same thing. She is not consistent with her belly to back rolling but she loves rolling back to belly. Problem - she won't roll back to her back again. She rolls over, pushes up and then starts crying because she wants to be on her back again. Thankfully it doesn't happen all that often but when it does, it is frustrating! She usually does it when she's drowsy ... she will shove her thumb in her mouth and then roll towards it.
