Thanks for the tips. It will be our first time in rome. We rarely use a stroller....Mostly LO walks otherwise we carry him.

I really want to see the Vatican. Thinking about a side train trip to Pisa.

we'll be in rome about 4 days then headed back to the UK where my family lives for a visit.

We went for our honeymoon and the two tips I can offer are to go to St. Peter's right when it opens. I think it was 7am? There was no wait, there was practically no one there, and it was absolutely breathtaking to be in there when it was empty.

Also, our guidebook said the best time to go to the Vatican museum was at noon. We ignored that advice and went in the morning and waited for hours to get in. We left at noon and there was practically no line. I wish we had listened! That being said, the sistine chapel is totally worth the wait.

We have never been with kids, but definitely many streets are paved with stones, so you might want to back carry or get a good all-terrain stroller that can handle it...

Rome is kid food heaven though.. pasta, truly yummy pizza, gelato.. no shortage of tasty foods for all. And double check with your bank to see if you can withdraw from local ATMs without fees..

If you bring a stroller, you will need one with air filled tires, the streets are notoriously bumpy/rough/broken/cobbled.

Look ahead for places to eat, most will accomodate children but their hours might be wonky (like closed in the middle of the afternoon).

There are several hop on/hop off bus tours that start near St. Peter's Basilica. I can't remember which one I took, but it's a great way to see the city (and learn about it at the same time) and then go back or hop off whenever you want. You can also buy tickets for the Vatican museum ahead of time (a must if you'd like to go in!).

My favorite moment in Rome was seeing the Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius on Capitoline Hill at dusk. Everything was all lit up and just beautiful!

How long are you going for?
Plaza navona was my favourite, Trevvi fountain was rubbish!
The Vatican is the big one, the queue was 2 hours long to get in, I wouldn't want to do that with LO. It will be freezing in November! Wrap up warm

Woohoo! Exciting! Is it your first time to Rome?

There are so many must sees!
Trevi fountain - daytime AND nighttime!
Colosseum
Roman forum
Piazza Navona
St. Peter's Basilica & square
Vatican Museum was interesting but it might be challenging for a LO
The Vatican Scavi tour was amaaaaazing but you probably won't be allowed to bring LO. Probably the highlight of my trip even though I'm not a devout Catholic.
Pantheon

Have you seen Angels & Demons or Roman Holiday? They both feature Rome and are fun to watch.

Rick Steves has some free podcast tours for some of the main attractions in Rome. You can download them here & put them on your mp3/phone and then you don't have to rent the audio guide. Though with a toddler, I don't know how much time you'll be able to spend doing the tours :-)
