If the room is dark, can the baby even see you? Ha I’m probably missing something! But our LO is sleep trained and sleeps in a pnp in our room when we travel and she never sees us, even though sometimes we are right next to her. By the time it’s light out, she’s awake anyway!

@orbeeforme: I thought about push pins too but DH doesn't want to make holes in the ceiling *eyeroll*

@SweetCaroline: This. Is. Brilliant.

@lamariniere: haha yes! Walk in closets for the win!

I’ve definitely put a pack in play in a walk in closet. :silly: I see that won’t work in your situation, but it brings back memories thinking about it.

@SweetCaroline: this is a great idea.

Stick PNP against wall or in corner. Place command hooks high on wall. Use binder clips on sheet, then hook binder clips on command hooks.

every where we go we pack a large flat sheet (dark, flannel) and push pins and make a partition by pinning it to the ceiling :) works every time!

@Mrs. Champagne: @bamblm: Unfortunately there is no walk in closet (just closet with pocket doors) and no bathroom large enough for a pack and play. It's my FIL's house...where we will be cramming 6 adults and 5 children into 3 bedrooms/1.5 baths. Pray for me. Haha.

@snowjewelz: Loooving the command strip idea. We could just fashion a blanket fort! I'm def throwing some in my bag!

@Kaohinani: I thought about an actual room divider too...but we are driving 10 hours across the state with 3 kids. Sooo yeah. I don't think DH would be on board with packing it 675 miles :meh:

@annem1990: Clips are smart! DS is standing though. Cashing that idea away for another time ;) I think we can just try it and see, like you said! And then if it doesn't go well, readjust our plan :)

If the room has full length curtains you can push the pack and play up against the wall and pull the curtains around it.

The best scenario is if the closet is big enough for a pack and play, with the closet door ajar and the sound machine running just outside the closet door. I've used the bathroom before also.

Depending on if he’s standing, I always used big clips (like for bags of chips) to clip blankets to the outside of the pack n play so LO couldn’t see.

That of course didn’t work once he stood up and would pull them off

Now I put it in the bathroom, walk-in closet, or behind an open door. I’ve also made a little “fort” of blankets and chairs to make it harder to see everyone. We travel a lot and have had to sleep in some crazy situations! You could also just try and see how it goes! Now our LO doesn’t need all of the coverings. He will sometimes wake up when we go to bed and stand up to look. Once he realizes we are laying down and quiet, he goes right back to sleep.

Assuming they'll have extra sheets there, what about getting some kind of command hooks that won't damage the walls and somehow clipping up two ends of a sheet?

When my DD, DS, DH and I were all jammed in a small room while visiting my in laws, we used a portable room divider. It is fairly easy to assemble and take back apart ... The only downside was packing ONE MORE THING to take with us while traveling with 2 kids, 2 adults, 2 dogs, and all of our luggage. Of course, for the privacy and the fact that DS gladly slept in his JOOVY without being annoyed by DD, it was worth it.

We opened the closet doors and put it in there with the doors open and it blocked off the room.

We’ve also used the bathroom in one room we stayed in when there was two bathrooms

We are traveling this week to my in laws. All 5 of us will be staying in one bedroom. Previously, our older two have slept in cots on the floor (and done just fine!) and the baby will cosleep in the bed...but we just sleep trained a couple weeks ago so now I'm planning on putting him in the pack and play. Which I think will be fine...but I'm worried if he wakes up in the middle of the night and sees everyone around the room, he will just want to party. Anyone have any mind blowing ideas about how I could partition off a corner of the room or something so he feels like he is in his own room? I was thinking maaaaaybe like making a little fort out of chairs and sheets? haha I don't know. I guess we can just try it for the first night and if it becomes a problem, cross that bridge when we get there! I am just amazed at some of the travel hacks around here so figured I'd see if anyone had any mind blowing ideas!
