@avivoca: I thought about that too. It's a very narrow closet, I'd almost be afraid I would crash into a wall! I think at one point it was closed off because it's framed out a little bit, and at some point someone opened it up. (Our house was built in 1958).

@matador84: Especially with the pass-through closet, I would put the baby in the office! It' would be so nice to get to the baby without having to go down the hallway and risk the other kids seeing/hearing you.

@Raspberry: it is so nice to have!!!! I can't imagine life without one, haha.

It is kind of weird, the master and office share a long pass through closet. I wanted to Sheetrock off the pass but dh said no. The office wall shares a wall with the master bathroom which can occasionally cause some noise.

@matador84: I'm jealous of your playroom!

Also, assuming you share a wall with the office, that's another good reason to put the baby there.

I would agree about putting the baby in the office as long as you don't need the office. My house is an exact setup. I work mostly from home so I need my office space. Personally, I would have the two big kids share a bedroom until the baby is old enough to share a room with the same sex sibling.

@Raspberry: we actually have a separate playroom/sunroom! My DS didn't stop having MOTN wake ups until past a year! It was almost 18 months actually, and I really want to avoid having a baby in our room that long again.

I also forgot to mention all our rooms are in one long hallway--master and office on same side, DS and DD on same side.

I agree with putting baby in the office.

In our case our first two already share because we're just moving from a two bedroom and they want to stay together for now. Our gender order is girl, boy, girl (#3 due dec/Jan) and we only have three upstairs bedrooms so eventually probably the girls will share and my son will have his own, and then eventually someone will go to the downstairs bedroom. We also have the option to put in a fifth bedroom downstairs so we may have two downstairs or a guest room/office and one kid down there. IF we change our third garage space to a room.

There's a small chance all 3 will share for awhile, but I doubt it.

I would put the baby in the office you described until middle of the night wake ups are no longer an issue then move him or her in with the same-sex sibling. I would then convert that office into a playroom since street noise and the shelving would not be issues. It would make up for having reduced bedroom space.

I would just put the baby in the office. They need less room than a toddler/big kid. Hardwood doesn't matter to me, all apartments here have hardwood. We just get big area rugs.
I would use part of the built in shelving for storing baby stuff with cute baskets and it's awesome to have a place for kid/baby books built in!
And as for the window/traffic, we live surrounded by hospitals. Literally our living room and 2/3 bedrooms look into a hospital. So we hear sirens and horns honking and such all day long. My son also spent the first 10 months of life living above the Midtown Tunnel (i.e. Traffic hell). Since it was from day 1 it has never bothered him and he'll sleep through all of that because he's used to it. We also use a noise machine to dampen it a little bit and blackout curtains.
I def think the baby in the office is the best option.

So, we have a 4 bedroom house--master bedroom, DS bedroom, DD bedroom and the 4th bedroom we currently use as an office. It's totally possible to use as a 4th bed, but it has a wall of wall-to-wall shelving we currently use for books and then another wall of kind of a weird closet, but it does have a rack for clothing. The floors are hardwood (so more of an office feel), and it faces the front of the house where you can hear more traffic from the street.

Currently we have the crib in our room because I've found with our other two children it's been easiest for them to "room-in" with us for a while, but this became an over a year-long thing in our old home which was just a 2 bed before we had the kids room together.

SO, we have talked about maybe moving our DS's room (he'll be 5 when the baby is born) to where the current office is, OR putting the baby in the current office space OR keeping the baby in our room and then when we find out gender (we're TG), then deciding what to do.

WWYD? I haven't done a nursery or anything for either of my kids, so that isn't a big deal to me, BUT I would really like to have our own space in the master this time around!
