Definitely white noise and bringing all of you necessities (Pj's, tooth brush, etc) outside of the bedroom before you put her to sleep. Sounds like the walk in closet will help a lot too! Good luck!

@psw27: score- walk in closet is plenty big for the pack and play! She has her own space and we can all sleep better, once she catches up from being overtired from the late flight!

@JoJoGirl: We always use a real white noise machine and definitely travel with it-- I've been known to also have it going on my phone if there is too much outside noise while I'm trying to get her to sleep!

@psw27: I don't know what the closet situation is, but that would be ideal! Nice and dark, too.

When my LO was 4 months he slept in a pnp at the foot of the bed one night and it was pure hell. I didn't sleep a wink! He was promptly moved to the bathroom after that! Like pp suggested, I would use a bathroom or walk-in closet if available. Otherwise, I would try and rig up something so it's like she is in her own space.

When we sleep in hotels that aren't suites, we usually set up the crib in the corner with chairs/tables to block his view. Then I hang his portable blackout blind like a curtain. It works like a charm! We also run white noise.

We JUST did this for a week last week! It went much better than I thought, although her night wakings were a pain because she could see us, so no letting her cry for 10 mins before getting her or that kind of thing.

I'd HIGHLY recommend bringing a real white noise machine or getting speakers for your iPhone if you can use a white noise app. We used an app and it saved us while we got ready for bed, flushed the toilet, etc. It wasn't quite loud enough but did the trick. We tried to do everything in the bedroom we needed to before putting her to bed, then just took our our pjs etc so the process would be quick. The crib had a real bumper (vs. a breatheable one like we use at home) which helped because she couldn't see us quite as easily.

I was going to suggest a walk-in closet if you have one in the room, she can sleep in there if it is large enough?

Looks like there is a big walk in shower in the bathroom-- maybe she can sleep in there :)

We've kept DS in the bedroom with us and brought PJs and whatnot in the bathroom to get ready for bed. We do not use a white noise machine at home but have turned a white noise app on after he was asleep (strangely turning it on BEFORE he was asleep distracted him!).

My bigger issue is the MOTD wake-ups. I assume at home that DS wakes up in the middle of the night, turns over and goes back to sleep (like we do). But when we room share, he sees us and starts crying. This either leads to one of us rocking him down or just bringing him in bed with us. Not ideal for us (we dont co-sleep) but we all survive.

@hilsy85: It does have its own bathroom, just not sure how big it is and if it will fit the PnP. I hope so!

The downside is there are 2 bathrooms, including the master, and 5 adults, so we will essentially all be sharing one to accommodate the little princess :)

Do you know if it has its own bathroom. Once on a trip, we put LO to sleep in the pnp in the bathroom with white noise on and closed the door!

We leave our suitcases outside the room, so we can get completely ready for bed without having to go in and out of the room. Then we just slip in the door when we're both ready. I wouldn't say that any of us sleep as good as we normally do, but we've survived a few trips this way now. Good luck!

If you don't usually room share at home, but do on vacation, any tips to make it go a little smoother? We leave Sunday and are sharing a room with LO. She's a pretty light sleeper so I'm worried about waking her up if we have to go in and out of the room. So, any tips like, putting your pajamas out before putting her to bed, that kind of thing? We will be in the master bedroom but I don't know how big it is or how the set up is (rental house with DH's family). I'm thinking we either won't use the bathroom while she is sleeping or just not flush. Or maybe it will be big enough that her pack and play can go in there!

Any other ideas to make this go smoother? Just a wee bit nervous about this whole trip!
