@Mrs. Jacks: excellent info on the bagging... thank you!! It was actually kind of a funny process... they bagged him, then we ran around the pedi office for a while until he finally peed. He peed a lot, too! No worries of dehydration there :) And thankfully we did get a completely negative result so we know for sure it wasn't a UTI.

I was really frustrated yesterday at not having a diagnosis, but now that his fever has broken and he's doing well so far today at daycare, I don't care anymore... :)

never heard of CMV before... looking it up now...

They didn't bag your little guy for urine because bagged urine provides a "dirty" urine, so if it had been positive they wouldn't have known if it was from the bag or from an infection.... and then they'd need to do the cath anyway. The only was a bag is helpful is when it's completely negative.

There are lots of febrile toddler illnesses, and I wouldn't worry too much about getting a diagnosis, as you probably won't. The only thing I'd be concerned about is CMV if you are known CMV negative. (And almost everyone is already CMV positive. I happen to be negative, but I knew that prior to pregnancy).

@Thehistoryofus: ah thanks! I had forgotten about the whole deal with fifths disease. I feel like with the first pregnancy I was so vigilant about everything and this one I just don't have space in my brain to store it all again!!

Glad he's doing good. Fifths was going around at daycare and my friend had to call the OB because she was like 15 weeks preg with #2 and they said it wasn't a huge deal after the first tri.

@Thehistoryofus: That scares me since I'm pregnant and fifth disease is the one my OBGYN told me I need to watch out for at RJ's daycare. But RJ has no cold symptoms or rash so I'm crossing my fingers it's not it...

The rash lasts more than a few hours, so it might be roseola..? My LO had roseola last month. I saw the rash for a good 24 hours.
Hope the little guy gets better soon!

So I'm writing a separate post about RJ to keep from novella-ing all over you guys :) So RJ has had a low-grade fever since Friday afternoon, but the past 2 mornings he woke up with fevers of 104.9 and 105.2. We are so lucky to have a pediatrician who's open 7 days a week, so we took him in on Sunday and they suspected either a UTI or Roseola since he had no other symptoms other than the high fever. His high fever has been very well managed by ibuprofen (brings it down to 99 or less every time) but of course the high number really scares me. They asked us to try and get a urine sample but we couldn't, so when he woke up again this morning with the even higher fever we took him in again. They said on Sunday that if we don't get a urine sample they'd have to do it via catheter in the office, but when we went in today they were able to put a bag on him and he peed into it! Why the heck didn't they do that yesterday?? :( Anyway, he tested negative for a UTI (just like Mommy...) so their guess now is Roseola and we're just waiting for the fever to break. Should be tonight or tomorrow, we're hoping.

I thought he had already had Roseola when he was younger because he had a really high fever that lasted a few days then went away overnight, and I thought I had just missed the rash during the night.

It's so frustrating that he and I have both been ill since Friday and neither of us has a definite diagnosis yet. :(

Any ideas other than Roseola?
