My LO had roseola around that age. I think it was 5 or 6 days of high fever, but it was odd because the fever went away for awhile (without meds) and then came back. So it wasn't continuous. I remember it specifically because she was sick starting on a Monday and we were supposed to leave for a trip on a Friday. She had the fever on and off Mon-Wed (between 102 and 104) and then it was completely gone on Thurs so we thought we were in the clear. On Fri, she woke up with a fever of 105. I ended up going by myself but I think DH said the fever finally resolved by Sat. That was also the day when the rash finally appeared (previously fever was her own symptom).

@winter_wonder @misolee thanks.

Today is day 4 of fever, he woke up hysterical and burning up at 4:30am. Checked temp twice, first reading said 104, second said 102.9. Pretty high either way. Gave him Motrin, I think I'll call the doctor when they open.

My 9 month old had roseola last week. He had a fever that started Saturday. On Sunday, it rose up to 103 and would go down with medicine but would come back up when the medicine wore off. I took him to the doctor on Monday bc I was worried (his 4 year old sister had croup the week before) but ruled out ear infection, lungs all sounded good, etc. He stopped taking fever medicine by Tuesday morning. On Tuesday night, I noticed a little bit of rash underneath belly button where his diaper meets and thought maybe it was a diaper rash. By Wednesday mid afternoon, it had spread all the way up his back and stomach and even to face. It freaked me out and was going to take him to urgent care but I have a friend whose a physician and I texted him a picture. He confirmed it was roseola and that nothing can be done but to wait it out. By Saturday, it was mostly gone.

@happybaker ugh, that sounds awful! I am hoping he wakes up tomorrow feeling better, but we'll see. He has been a pretty sad little dude the past 3 days. It's tough because at 14 months he's not really interested in TV/screentime so I just hold him a lot and walk around... it was a long day. We've read his favorite books a lot.

We recently had a high fever virus that lasted a full week before finally breaking, and it was not roseola. They did a blood test to see if it was something else and it ended up being very similar to mono because it effected DS's liver and spleen. Apparently most kids who get mono at this age bounce back within a day, but perhaps there's a nastier version of it going around this year! The blood work also revealed some other unrelated issues so I'm glad we got it done.

Good luck, fevers / viruses are the worst since there's not much you can do but wait it out. We watched a LOT of Daniel Tiger in a week!

@MrsADS: It's tough when they have such a high fever! LO went through so many viruses at that age, it felt like he had a few days of a high fever at least once a month. Hang in there!

I think he had 4 or 5 days of a high fever, once it finally broke the rash appeared the next day. I think we were in the ped's office twice that week too, just to make sure nothing else was going on. She wanted to rule out a UTI at our second visit.

My 14 month old LO has been sick with a high fever and a bit of a runny nose since Monday morning when he woke up (so today is the end of day #3 with the fever). We took him to the pediatrician on Tuesday and she said it's not an ear infection, strep, or flu, and might be roseola because of the high fever. Or it might just be a virus.

If your LO had roseola, how long did the high fever last before it broke and you had the rash? LO's fever has been 103-104 without meds (101-102 with ibuprofen and tylenol). He's so miserable.

Our ped mentioned if he's not better or improving by tomorrow (day #4 of high fever), they want to see him back to make sure there's not something else going on... I guess maybe a blood test or something to see if he has an infection.

Thanks!
