@Adira: Bummers! I just didn't hunt down DH's family at all...but we don't have to pay a venue so I see your predicament.

I would try to get my DH to contact them or maybe send a hoping to see you there! tone email to remind them you aren't 100% certain they are coming.

@tororojo: My mom was actually hoping at the my MIL would do this, but my MIL is divorced from FIL and it's FIL's family that hasn't responded to the RSVP, so I'm not sure if my MIL is comfortable contacting that side of the family. I'm not even sure if she has any of their contact info anymore.

Totally not tacky! Maybe you could even get MIL to do the grunt work? I don't think it's gift grabby at all, you just want to know one way or another.

@Modern Daisy: I agree! Especially because half of these people, my mom (or I) talked to ahead of time (before the invites even got sent out) to make sure the date would work for them, and they all said that it did and they would be there! And now they're not RSVPing! WTF!

@Adira: It's really obnoxious of people not to RSVP by the date, so I think you're fine to reach out in any way you want. Personally if I were you, I would contact my friends and ask my DH to contact his family.

Okay, I need more advice on this subject, haha. The RSVP by date is today, so we're going to wait until at least tomorrow to start bothering people with their response. My question is, is it okay for ME, the person the shower is being thrown FOR and NOT the hostess, to call/e-mail people to find out if they are coming?

My mom is hosting the event, so she said she would call people on my side of the family to find out if they are coming or not, and I figured I could ask the two friends who didn't RSVP, but my mom doesn't have the contact information of any of my husband's family. Is it okay if I contact them to find out if they are coming (my mom needs a head count since the event is catered)? Or does that seem tacky and like I'm begging for gifts? There are only two of them (two aunts) that I would be contacting.

Depending on the relationship I would probably call or email them the day after the RSVP due date. If it is someone I'm not all that close to or rarely shows up to events, I would just count them as a no.

You could always contact them to confirm they got the invitation and then remind them of the RSVP date at that time. We had a couple of people who reported not getting our wedding invitation so this worked out for us.

Thanks ladies!! Sounds like I should wait until after Friday and then it's okay to bug the stragglers for their answer! Some of my friends have heavily implied that they ARE coming, but they haven't RSVP'd yet, so I wasn't sure what the etiquette was.

For all of our events we generally will call after the RSVP date before giving our final headcount. We've set it up to where we have our date 2 weeks out from our "headcount" deadline and then usually call a week after.

With yours being closer I'd probably start making calls a on the Sunday before the deadline... maybe even Saturday just incase you can't get in touch with everyone first round.

If they are your friends, I would say something. Maybe email them all on Thursday and say that your Mom asked to remind them to RSVP since she has to give a headcount.

People forget all the time. But it is rude to not RSVP.

I'd say to get a hold of people as best as you can if you need an exact (or approximate head count). And I'd also probably add a few to the total just in case some people pop in. :)

What's the correct etiquette when you're planning a party and you have an RSVP date on your invitations and people haven't responded yet. Do you gently remind them prior to the RSVP date not to forget to RSVP? Do you wait until the RSVP date has passed and then see if they are coming or not? Or do you just assume any non-responses are a not-coming?

My mom is planning my baby shower and she's hosting it at an event center where she needs to give them an official head count since they are serving lunch. She sent out the invitations over a week ago with an RSVP date of January 11th (this Friday). She has to tell the event center by January 14th (the following Monday) the total head count. Some of my friends haven't RSVP'd yet - I'm curious if I should do anything, wait and then do something, or don't do anything?
