I think it's fine to say you already have a ton of clothing as long as you make it sound like you'd still appreciate it as a gift. The safest bet is just to refer them right back to your registry. Like "We will definitely need everything that's still on our registry, but we also love the creative gifts people come up with. We got a ton of clothing at our last shower so we aren't registered for any more, but it's always nice to see what cute outfits people buy".

Just say what you DO need. I do think it's rude when people dictate what NOT to get them. It is all in how you phrase it

Not rude!! I loved when people asked what I really needed (as opposed to wanted). I feel like clothes are hardly ever needed because we get so many as gifts and hand-me-downs... but my favorite gifts have been those where I was honest with friends/family about what I truly needed.

I don't think so, it's probably just the way you can say it. I didn't WANT a lot of clothing, so if people asked, I just told them that we had plenty of clothing and it worked out fine for me.

Not at all. At first I was a bit nervous about saying what we needed until I realized, they need to know what we really need! So I would say bottles or books or bibs or this high chair, bouncy seat, etc. Just say, I am so lucky that my sister has gifted me her lo's clothes, I don't need any!

I don't think it is rude. Perhaps explain that you were lucky enough to be gifted a TON of clothing but still need other essentials such as burp clothes, etc. That way you are giving them options that are in line with clothing from a pricing standpoint and should not be felt as if you are pushing them to more expensive "gear" options.

I dont think its rude. I would def say " I really need ...(list items).
I just went to a baby shower a few weeks ago where the host put out what the mother needed, and it was all practical stuff, no clothes. Sadly most people didnt listen and still got her tons of clothes.
Good luck!

Thank you all! I just get so nervous about offending people (partially hormonal I think.) I made sure to not have any clothing on the registry! I would always be gracious with accepting the outfits, but I would love to get the stuff we really need instead ;)

That doesn't seem rude to me - if they are asking, then tell them! People can have just as much fun shopping for blankets, bibs, etc. (don't forget a Sophie!) as they can for clothes. :)

I don't think that's rude AT ALL. It's not like you are giving them one specific item to buy you... you are giving them one item that you don't need more of. Obviously if someone gives you clothing you should accept it graciously. But in my experience when people ask you what you want/need they are doing so because they really do want to buy you what you need.

I think if someone specifically asks you what you need then it's not rude. I know if I ask someone what they would like then I wouldn't be offended if they said something like "anything on the registry, we're pretty set with clothes from sister's LO". It's not like you wrote it on the invitation.

I don't think it is rude at all, but if you think the person asking could be sensitive just explain why. I think it's great that you have so many outfits available, there is no point to having people waste money on something that may never get used!

backstory: I am very lucky that my younger sister has a daughter that will be exactly 1 year older than my LO. She has already offered me all of her clothes, and she went nuts (like 2 1/2 totes full of just 0-3 month clothings, sleepers, ect.) So I am set for awhile.

I have 2 more showers coming up and have had a couple people ask me what I need, is it rude to say anything but clothing? I know that is the most popular item for people to buy for little girls, but I really don't need it. I need burb cloths, bibs, bottles, blankets, ect! But I don't want to offend family or friends either!
