@agold: use it!! there's an interior decorating principle that in small rooms, large/dominating rugs work better. Incidentally my daughter's room is the same size as your room, and I got a 5x8 rug for it (wouldn't fit an 8x10 because of the radiator placement) and it really annoys me how it sits in the middle of the room with no furniture anchoring it. 8x10's are so much more expensive, consider yourself lucky :)

@agold: I would use it! I ordered a 4x6 for my DS's same sized room, and while not quite 5x8 I wish it was MUCH bigger now that its in there, it makes the room look smaller because its a tiny rug!

My LO’s room is this size and this is the same size rug we have. People have actually commented about how much bigger her room seems with it (we used to have a 5x8).

See how it looks to you, but in our case, it works great. I like having more soft surface area, too.

I would use it. I would roll it all the way against the wall where your biggest furniture is like crib/bed. Maybe with the 2" that's where dressers, etc can go?

@BUNBUN: Yes.. the furniture is all up against the wall... so all the furniture would end up being half on and half off. Interesting dilemma.

@jape14: @JennyPenny: Agree about too small rugs. I ended up getting a 5' round rug for my other girl's smaller 10x10 room..... :bummed: It may be too small.. but it was on clearance. I'm having trouble finding rugs I like. Already am returning one bought on overstock. It was terrible. So I'm going pricier rugs bought on clearance. Creates return problems...

@JennyPenny: @avivoca: I suppose I could unroll it. I am able to actually return it phsyically to a store nearby. (Just need to find the time) As opposed to the overstock.com rug that I need to figure out how to return in the mail. :crying:

I like the way larger rugs look asthetically, and it will be much better when she gets to the playing on the floor stage - more space is warmer and more cushioned for her (and you!)

I would think it could be ok depending on the layout and other furniture. Agree too big is better than too small. Also- 8x10 Riggs are usually a lot more expensive than smaller ones! Is it over hard wood? More rug means more padding for drops and falls. But messier cleanup for spills and accidents.

In general I think it's better to err on the side of too big than too small when it comes to rugs, so I think it might be the right size in the end. I would roll it out and see.

I would 100% use an 8x10 rug in a 10x11 room. Too small rugs are a decorating pet peeve of mine.

Yes, depending on how it looks. I've seen it done most often in living rooms. It could dominate the room, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! The biggest thing for me would be whether it got in the way of furniture against the wall. For furniture that sits half on/half off the rug, you can always put a pad under dresser or crib/bed legs that are off the rug so that they are level.

This is a silly question, but I would love all your thoughts:

My little daughter's room is sized 10x11. I ordered a 5x8 rug and the store sent me an 8x10 rug.

I hate the hassle of returning it. I am not going to unroll it. But I was just wondering.. would you ever put an 8x10 rug in the 10x11 room? Would that work, or should I return it for the smaller rug?

(Sorry for such a silly question.. I am sleep deprived with a newborn, back to work, and just moved. So totally overwhelmed and my brain is barely working.)
