Wear bright colours always, does it have a soft shoulder? Or even just neighborhoods with good sidewalks? I live in a neighborhood with good sidewalks and luckily even the busier road has good sidewalks, so I can just leave the house and run. If you have it, you can run on a busy road as long as there is a wide shoulder. Just make sure you take a lot of safety precautions: wear bright/reflective clothing, wear a headlamp in low lighting, carry identification and a cell phone and pay attention to your surroundings.
