I always get fitted for shoes at the running store, but one time I had a shoe that rubbed my arch the wrong way during a run. I was able to return the shoes, but they gave me a hard time about it because the sole was a bit dirty. Fleet Feet will take the shoes back, no questions asked, if you bought them there.

@BabyBoecksMom: If you buy from a specialty running store, many times they have a 30 days guarantee and encourage you to try them and come back if it's uncomfortable. You pay a bit more, but it ensures that it will work for you.

@IRunForFun: that's what I figured. I haven't bought a new pair in years because I was pregnant most of the past 3 years, so I can't remember what new ones feel like haha I haven't run in these yet because I didn't think I could return them if they've been used.

@BabyBoecksMom: Have you run in them yet? I've been wearing the same brand, style, and size for 5+ years, and I always find that the new pairs feel the teeniest bit tight at first...but tend to stretch out a little and feel perfect after a few runs. You wouldn't really want more than a half inch between the tip of your toe ajd the end of the shoe or your foot will be slipping!

Echoing the PP. Go to a running store so the staff can evaluate your gait and find a pair that best suits your needs. Then, buy online. :silly: Also, I buy my running shoes a half-size too big, as feet will swell on longer runs.

@BabyBoecksMom: I've wasted $$ on shoes by not being fitted before, I would agree to go to a store and get fitted. I do like a little toe room but a half inch sounds about right, too much more and you wouldn't have the stability from the shoe.

Every few years I go to a running store to be fitted. Once I find the "perfect" shoe, I pay the $$$ at the store, and then will buy the same shoe online (like, 3 or 4 pairs) when the price is reduced or they are about to be discontinued. With the amount of miles I personally run (I'm definitely NOT a marathoner but do 650-750 miles a year, according to my. Garmin), finding the "perfect" fit initially is so important that I don't like to guess.

I've always gone to a running store to be fitted. Don't like the guesswork since it's such an investment!

I'm in desperate need of new running shoes and just ordered some Asics gel 19. They feel super comfortable and I have about a 1/2" between the end of my big toe and the tip of the shoe. But it feels a teeny bit too close to the tip on one foot. I'm trying to decide if I should go up a 1/2 size or keep these.

How do you figure it out?
