@Coco Bee: I think I read on wholesomebabyfoods that after 3 months that start to lose their nutritional value? I've started freezing in season first foods that I get from my CSA share.

@Thehistoryofus: Yes, def fresh milk for purees! Never refreeze frozen milk!

@Coco Bee: I think it may depend on the food.

However, if you are using milk for purees I would use fresh milk.

@Mrsbells: I've read that, too. But I've also read that frozen still has more nutrients than formula, which is why I've been storing so much, so that she drinks it for as long as possible, just in case I need to stop breastfeeding at some point. I am going by the KellyMom recommendations, though 3-4 months (I do 3 months max.)

@leelee: We're moving, so I'll check CL after the move to see if there are any freezers for sale.

We actually bought a small freezer on craigslist for about $100 is that an option for you? I figure that even with the purchase of it we were still saving money not having to buy formula.

yes I had this issue but then because other people told me that the milk loses its nutrient value as it ges older I started feeding more of it to LO so now I dont have anything that is older than 30 days.

We stopped buying frozen anything for a while...kind of annoying but it's just for a few months.

@regberadaisy: The first bag is when I didn't have a big supply and it only has 1-3 oz per bag. I don't like to give her a completely frozen bottle, so I'll make 3 bottles with half freshly pumped (that's been cooled already) and half of the frozen.

I am planning on doing purees, but we're not starting her on them for another 2 months.

@sloaneandpuffy: Yes, I'm worried about my supply taking a hit at 6 months or whenever I get my period, which is why I like to have a lot. Hmm. I may have to stop stocking up on food!

We were basically forced to eat all our frozen food LOL. It was nice to have the freezer back for the family when that was all done! ALthough I have to say I worried a lot about space and milk going bad and whatnot, and then when my baby was 6 months plus, my supply started dipping a bit and everything turned out just perfectly.

wow. I'm SO jealous!!!
How are you cycling through it? What about 1 bottle of frozen per day?
Any options of buying a *small* freezer?

ETA: are you planning on making your own purees? You can start using the freshly pumped to thin the purees and give her the frozen meanwhile. Instead of freezing the freshly pumped.

I know this is not a common complaint!

We have one freezer (attached to fridge) I store breast milk in the back on the bottom shelf. The rest of the freezer has our ice and food. I have 5 gift bags full of frozen milk and started cycling through the first bag a little earlier (3 months frozen is beginning of September for the first bag) because I am running out of room. But I don't think I will cycle through it fast enough to make room.

I am trying to figure out a better way--but I don't want to get rid of milk! Or pump and dump.

Any suggestions?
