@DesertDreams88: the sad thing is DH doesn't smoke, doesn't drink alcohol at all, doesn't drink coffee.... the only thing i can think of that may be a factor is that he has a desk job, so he's sitting a lot, and then comes home at sits more at his computer here. Maybe all the sitting keeps his temp up?

@MrsADS: wow that is amazing!! I'm happy it worked for you. I hope well be as lucky.

My husband's SA numbers were pretty bad in all categories... our RE basically told us he thought we would likely need to do IVF. We started with an IUI (I also had some female IF issues). When we arrived for the IUI, the RE actually said he strongly suggested we do a repeat IUI the next day because my husband's sample results were so poor. I declined because it was our first IUI (and also, $$$). Anyway, the first IUI worked and I got pregnant. My son is almost 2 now.

@Umbreon: alcohol and antibiotics have negative effects on sperm, and so does heat (hot tubs, tight brief, biking). DH does his best to cut out all of those 2 months before TTC and through.

@oskarsmommy: @Worrywart: thank you! I think we will wait until our fertility appt before getting DH to take anything. I'm hoping that well just be lucky before then though.

@Umbreon: The two times we got pregnant on clomid, only took two months each. The time it happened naturally took about 15 months. Wishing you luck!!!

DH's morphology is 4% and I've gotten pregnant 3 times. Twice on Clomid and once naturally. We didn't see a urologist or anything.

Does anyone know, is there anything we can do? If we started doubling our veggie intake or if DH started taking a multi vitamin, could that help? Is there anything I can do to help make it easier for the swimmers?

Thank you all so much. This is very reassuring. It was the only low number of the results. I will be sure to ask for clarification once we see the specialist. I was not very prepared.

At least there's only the one issue, so there's a silver lining. Although I was hoping the issue would be a lack of vitamin for me or some easy fix.

It's been a long time trying. A year and a half or longer. It's been almost two years since we first started but life got in the way a few months here and there.

My husband's morphology was 1.5%, on the strict scale. All other numbers were ok. I have PCOS. We have conceived once naturally, once with Clomid + met + progesterone, and once with just met + progesterone (so, a total of 3 times).
I am not a fertility doctor but with my rudimentary understanding of how it works, I think speed and number are much more important than morphology (so does my OB). Basically, DH has the right # of guys and they all swim to the egg quickly, but a lot of them just have weird shapes. However, all it takes is one normally-shaped one, right....?

We try for EOD during days 5-20, and then whatever outside of that. Studies show more frequent intercourse, like EOD, is better to improve sperm quality (more "cycling through"), but I don't know how specific "quality" is (like, does it improve motility, morphology, count, or all?)

My husbands who value was actually 6% and the Kruger morphology was 10% don't ask me how that ended up happening as the Kruger is more strict, it was from the same sample too. Our dr. Wasn't concerned at all, didn't even consider it abnormal. We got pregnant on our 14th cycle, with every other day intercourse.

If morphology is the only low number I wouldn't freak out. We had that number be around the cutoff and the re was like "well it may matter but it may not" and they didn't focus on it. My first lo was conceived on clomid with ti. My second we failed all the iuis we tried (which should technically have helped the swimmers I guess?) and got pregnant on a break cycle with our sticky baby. We (really just because it works for us) don't overdo the bd. Only two days in a row if I see a positive opk because including that day has been my best indicator of success - much more so than getting in a lot of days.

It's been a few years since my husband had a SA and if I remember correctly his forward motility was 16% (well below the 30 or 32% cutoff) and his morphology was 4% which was the cutoff based on the criteria the clinic used.

We saw a reproductive urologist and he wasn't concerned with the numbers because my husband had a high count.

We ended up getting pregnant with our first LO after 17 cycles and no medical intervention and 8 cycles with the LO I'm currently pregnant with.

We made sure to focus on every over day around ovulation and I think that helped despite his low percentages.

Good luck!

I would ask your doctor if the morphology was 30% based on WHO scale or the Kruger strict scales. Also the cut off for abnormal morphology is actually 4% on both WHO and Kruger, which doesn't make sense to me but that is what it is. I would also see if you could get a SA with the Kruger strict morphology, it is more clinically useful I think.

Talked to the doctor about all our test results. There was an issue with DH's SA. All numbers looked good, sperm count included, but morphology was low. She told us the numbers but they don't mean anything and I was too overwhelmed to ask what they meant. But she showed us the results and morphology was 30. I wish I asked for clarification but my brain was in panic mode. She said the sperm were small.

Anyway, she said that the fertility clinic will follow up on this with us but she wanted to let us know and told us to only being DTD every second or third day. She didn't say it was hopeless and did say it's entirely possible we could get pregnant before our fertility appt.

Anyone had similar issues? Did you need interventions to conceive? Is there anything we can do in the meantime before our fertility appt? It could be a month away still - there's a waiting list.
