We had to make a similar decision a few weeks ago when our 14 year old diabetic dog fell very ill. We had rescued him later in life as well (when he was 12). I was heartbroken about it (I still am, actually) but my husband kept reminding me what a lucky dog he was to have been given a second chance at life. In hindsight, I know we did the right thing by not making him suffer, but it was so so difficult. I'm sure he's lived a fulfilling life, and that he is very grateful that you adopted him and took care of him for the past 5 years. He has lived a wonderful life making it to 18 (We have had rescued him 5 years ago). I am so sad knowing that I need to make a decision about putting him down. I guess there isn't really a point of this post only that I am just soo sad. Prayers for Pedro would be greatly appreciated. </p>
