@Katrocap: we got the OK for the A&A blankets at 6 months! Our doctor said they were breathable and at that age he was rolling efficiently and could move a blanket from his face. She also said that at that age he would instinctively move if he couldn't breathe.

@Katrocap: Sadie is 4 months, and she sleeps with her A+A blankie every night. I let her sleep with it during naps for a few days & watched her on the monitor to see how she handled it. She did fine, so I just started giving it to her at night too. She rubs it all over her face when she's trying to put herself back to sleep. It sort of freaks me out because I have a CRAZY sids fear, but I could breathe through it just fine, so I know she can too. She LOVES it.

@Katrocap: I think going with a smaller sized one is a great idea. Plenty of babies have slept with the large ones and been fine, but I know someone who lost a nephew when they had a large thin breathable swaddle blanket in the crib during a nap and the baby rolled and it got twisted around his neck :( but those small ones are breathable and too small to get twisted around.

@Katrocap: I think it is probably 100% a "gut" thing. If you think he'd be safe and sound, why not try it. I nestled it in between us while he nursed and then gave it to him when I put him down. Now we also let him hold it when we're reading before sleep.

We started using one of these at about 6.5 months -- he didn't really care about it at first but now he definitely uses it -- especially for naps when he doesn't want to sleep right away, he will play with it, suck on it for a little while then fall asleep!

@scg00387: DS can't roll both ways yet. I wonder if that's necessary?

@navy_mommy: I've pushed the A+A up to my face, too, to check. I think DS would be fine, but I have an obsessive worry of SIDS.

@bamblm: My DS loves sucking on his security blanket, too.

@zippylef: I'd read that it helps comfort, them, too. I've been wondering if it would be helpful during sleep training.

Yeah, I dare you to TRY to suffocate on an A&A lol. Wes started sleeping with a lovey at 6 months and a small fleece blanket at 9 months. You are the only one who knows your child's physical abilities to pull away from a blanket at night.

We have the same ones and gave it to him around.. maybe 4 months? I could breathe through it when it was folded into a little ball so I didn't stress on it. At first when he slept on his back, he would constantly pull it over his face and after a few times, I just gave up and let him. Now that he sleeps on his tummy, it's under his face. He LOVES it and it's definitely a sleep cue. It also keeps him entertained if he wakes up early!

ETA: he has always been very strong; we waited until he could roll both ways to give it to him. He was also unswaddled.

we probably break the rules, but our LO is seven months and has slept with his A&A blanket for three months now. He pulls up a corner and either rubs it on his cheek or sucks on it. I just make sure it's not covering his face.

My DD started sleeping with a small lovey when we swaddle-weaned her at 6 months. I read that it can be comforting for them, so we tried it. She loves having something to cuddle at night.

How old should babies be before they sleep with security blankets? We have the Aden + Anais ones:
http://www.amazon.com/aden-anais-Muslin-Security-Blanket/dp/B004DCA22M/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1371339254&sr=1-3&keywords=aden+%2B+anais+2+Pack+Muslin+security+blanket

I'm worried about SIDS and know there should be no bedding in the crib before age 1, but I hear of parents with littler ones using lovies and security blankets. DS is 5 months old, btw.
