Are you good at skiing? I fell several times when I was pregnant, not from skiing but just because I'm uncoordinated and I still run and dont walk even when I was pregnant. Everything I've heard is the uterus and fluid is a big strong protector for the baby. I wouldn't go do anything crazy but stuff you've got skills at I wouldn't worry too much.

@jh524: Yeah, but the reasoning is always avoiding potential trauma, not the athletic exertion. It is absolutely not an issue that early, case closed. Do it if you want, you'll be fine.

I went skiing when I was about 4.5 months pregnant, I'm an experienced skier and took it very easy, taking lots of rest and staying off the more difficult pistes. It's not or everyone but I was comfortable with my choice.

Thanks everyone - I am a seasoned skier and would stick to the easier trails with DH following closely behind to watch out for collisions. Of course I know nothing is guaranteed but we decided not to wait. If I get pregnant this cycle, I will just hang in the lodge. If we are still trying next cycle and we are only potentially a few days pregnant I will probably go out and be extra cautious.

Thanks again for your advice - we aren't even pregnant yet and havig to make some tough decisions!!

I would just push off TTC for one more month. That way you can enjoy skiing with no worries AND you can jump in the hot tub for some apres ski relaxation! (Hot tubs are also no-nos for pregnant ladies because of the heat).

If you wouldn't even know you were pregnant, I don't see the harm. You'd have to like, bend yourself around a tree to cause some major problems, I think :P

I'm not one to abstain from life just in case I might get pregnant, though.

I would. Chances are you won't get pregnant on the first try anyway but why not give it a shot. I wouldn't be doing anything totally crazy but I don't think you need to put your whole life on hold for half of every month. So yeah, I would go for it.

i actually had my regular annual gyn appt a few days after i knew i ovulated. i told her and said, "just don't jostle anything around in there." she just giggled and said it would be fine. and turns out, i was 3 weeks pregnant at that point.

My doctor told me I could play soccer until about 12 weeks. @alphagam84: I was given the same explanation- the uterus/fluid/stomach are like a helmet for the baby.

I think you would be fine and its something I would (I snowboard). One of the US women's soccer players was cleared by her doctor to play competitively up until the 3 month mark. He said the mother's stomach/amniotic fluid provided enough protection that even a ball kicked very hard into the stomach wouldn't hurt a fetus. And if you think about it, when you fall in a snow sport you don't normally land directly on your stomach-I'm normally on my butt! :)

I wouldn't if it were me. I'm a good skiier and rarely fall, but things happen. Even a fall caused by someone else is a fall, and everything I've read puts skiing on the no list because of potential abdominal trauma. If I were in your shoes, I would just put off starting to TTC one more month so you can ski without worry (and have a nice adult beverage at the end of the day if you're into that!).

Are you likely to fall? If you're a good skier and don't fall then it's probably safe.

I don't know how true this is but I remember reading that a big impact in early pregnancy, like a fall, may cause the fertilized egg to dislodge from the uterine lining (before placenta is developed).

It's okay so early, but I would also tell you I have a season pass and I would never snowboardmormdo anything crazy during my TWW. I just had some weird thought that any hard movements would loosen any embryo attachment (although we know it's not true). Look, even that US gold medal track girl was pregnant at the Olympics, but I didn't want to risk anything. Lol

DH and I are ready to TTC. Yay! We are out this month though because we have a big ski trip planned for New Years and I don't want to risk anything.

However, next month my fetrile week is about 5-7 days before our trip. If we were lucky enough to get pregnant then, would it cause major risk to the baby to still ski?

I wouldn't even technically know if I was pregnant or not.... I would think it would be okay ? .
