@MrsBrewer: We do really like it! We would probably move just because of the cost of everything living in CA if it wasn’t for the fact that both of our families live here too. We feel like we’re so lucky that they’re all in one place that it would be ridiculous for us to move away :( Where we live isn’t horrible though and we love being fairly close (45min-2hrs) from both the mountains and the beach! And luckily our suburb at least “feels” safe.

@MrsBrewer: I definitely agree. Unfortunately here you still go into the main part of the city for a lot of things so we spend a lot of time in Fresno!

@Coco Bee: Very smart move!

@Running Elley: I think though the the suburbs outside of the main cites are a completely different story.

@ktgee04: I just moved back to Milwaukee. I was renting in a small town about 45 minutes north of Milwaukee, but now my DH and I just bought a house in Milwaukee. We plan on having 1-2 kids in the house, but moving/selling the house before they are school age, we refuse to send them to the public schools in the area.

Ha! Our city (or at least the major city that we’re a suburb of) was one of the featured most dangerous cities. Awesome. And 2 of the other featured dangerous ones are also in our general area. Sooooo lovely.

@Coco Bee: I did the same thing! Fresno is the main city that ours is a suburb of and when I first saw it I thought the article was saying it was safe and I was shocked!

hahaha I started going backwards and I was like "Fresno CA, safe?! WTF?!" lol that I realized it was given a D- for safety! D'oh!

We live an hour outside the main city in our state, population od 25,000 and it's a very family-friendly town. A little rural, but not too rural. It's very safe. I grew up 15 minutes from here and my parents always let us play outside unattended. There were never any worries.

I don't consider it UNsafe, but I wouldn't let my kids wander around. It's not super clear where the good areas are versus bad. Side note: The town where I grew up is #96 and I never, ever felt unsafe. Go figure

I love Madison!! If I had more family that way I'd definitely raise a family there. I just moved to GB from Milw and have to agree that one of the main reasons we left is b/c I couldn't see us raising our kids there. I loved the east-side (where we lived) but it didn't take much to get into a bad neighborhood. I do miss it tho! : )

I saw this article and I was actually very suprised! Number 1 on the safest city for children is Madison, WI. I'm in Milwaukee so not exactly Madison but still in WI. I just found this pretty cool actually. I would agree though that it would be very safe for children, especially Madison it's pretty rural there but there is still a lot of stuff to do in the city itself. Milwaukee, is a little hectic, and the crime is a little higher right in the city, but I would consider suburbs outside of Milwaukee extremely safe!

http://health.yahoo.net/articles/parenting/photos/safest-cities-children#10

Would you consider the city you live in safe for children?
