@Blackbird: I do, too! He's great and down to Earth, and really puts my mind at ease. There is an area with lots of prostitutes down the road from the hospital, and he sometimes goes for walks there. Not to pick up hookers, or anything like that! Anyway, he assures me that my baby will be fine, and everything I'm doing is great, because, well, all those hookers that drank and did drugs throughout their pregnancies, and don't even know who the fathers are, all turned out with healthy and beautiful babies, and I will too!!!

Thanks, everyone! I met with my doctor and asked him, as well. He said as long as I'm not sticking my finger in the cats' butts, there's no problem with having them up and around. As for cleaning the litter box when my husband is away, he said just to use gloves. My husband also bought me a respirator, but it's really not necessary. I have been wanting one for awhile, so it was a good excuse!

Nope nope nope nope.

PS indoor cats don't really get this. It's more the outdoor ones that do. I have indoor ONLY cats and still clean their box. Not concerned in the least

You've probably already had it if you've had cats for that long.

Unless they are pooping on your bed you should be fine ;) Indoor only is a big way to reduce the risk of new toxo infections. If you are super concerned your doc can do a blood test on you or your vet can do a blood test on your cats to check for it. It's not cheap though.

You're fine, its just the litter. The danger is in contact with their feces, not the cats themselves.

My pediatrician only cautioned against the litter, but you might want to call the nurse hotline and ask if it gives you peace of mind! I called during my pregnancy with all sort of questions that would come up, no matter how big/small they seemed.

No, the only recommendation is to avoid the litter box.

definitely don't think you have to worry at all. I also remember reading when i was pregnant that if you grew up with cats, you have likely already had toxoplasmosis and are now immune to getting it again. So our SOs don't necessarily HAVE to be the ones to clean the litter for 9 months.....of course, i had DH do it just to be extra cautious ;)

I don't think you have to worry about it. My cats were all over me with no ill effects. I also cleaned their boxes out of necessity (husband was out of town) but I cleared it with the midwives and wore gloves/a mask).

We have two 8 year old cats that like to sleep in the bed with us. They are somewhat needy and if we shut them out of the bedroom, they will scratch and meow until we let them in.

I'm currently 11w5d, and while my husband has been on litter duty since we found out, we haven't altered the remainder of our pet habits, whatsoever. They still lie on me if I'm taking a nap during the day (on weekends) or evening (weekdays), and will sometimes lie on me at night. They still get lots of rubs from me, too.

Do I have to be concerned with toxoplasmosis from casual contact and/or extended contact at night or during naps?

Note: they receive annual shots, even though they are indoor cats, and never have contact with other animals.
