My lady is not a nanny she is more of a daycare so everything is on her schedule. She picks him up but he is in the car a lot for her family things like dropping her kids off at sporting events. We didn't have any problems with her favoring her kid who was 4 years older. He is most definitely part of the family which I like. I also had an exit plan. He could start preschool at 18 months old if it didn't work out. But we love it. She feeds him our food and naps him on the best schedule for her and us. </p> <p>One major benefit to us is her ability to watch him early or late. My husband would have to do all the drop off/pick up and it would add to his commute. If she came to us, it would be different. She's also TTC #2 and would be on a similar time line to us TTC #1 which makes it kinda not ideal either. I agree though, it's a slippery slope with a friend. But, finding someone independently seems really ideal! I think I'm going to look into it when the time comes.</p> <p>@TheHistoryofUs - I think I'd look for someone to come to my house to avoid that and make things easier on us too. My best friend was an only child and her mom watched other kids on the side. But there was a lot of kids.. usually 4-6 in the day and then 4 more after school. It's important to have someone who is fair and respectful of the fact they're getting paid to watch someone else's child in addition to caring for their own. It can be a slippery slope if it's a friend IMO... The lady would do chores rather than sit/play with the babies. Also, her son got dragged to some errands that interrupted his schedule that wasn't good either. There were issues with babyproofing the house (lady had an older child).
