I just made thus switch. I work early hours (6-12), so it's been Ann easy transition. DH works from home, so he parents while I work and then vice versa. I'm home in time to nurse M for his afternoon nap. AND I'm loving the extra income. :)

I don't have any advice but I'm excited for you! You've done a fantastic job with your kids and I'm excited for you to do something that will make you feel happy and fulfilled! Not that you didn't feel that way as a SAHM but I think this will be different.

@HLK208: It was mostly because LO was so young (4.5 months) and I was pumping and having a hard time producing enough milk. I also hated our childcare situation (MIL at the time) and I didn't have a great daycare lined up because I was waitlisted at my 1st choice and wasn't really thrilled with the other choices. I started LO in her daycare (a new one) at 16 months for 3 days a week while I did my job search and she did great. She loves this daycare and I am happy with my job so life is good. I think the only thing that would make my situation better is if I could work 4 days instead of 5. :-)

Good luck!!! :) :goodluck:

@sunny: do you think you were miserable because she was younger or because of your work place? I'm hoping since my kids are a little older (well, my youngest is almost one) that it might be easier than if I had made the transition sooner.

@coopsmama: not yet! I'll most likely be working in a few months though!

I never stayed home full time, but I went from pt wohm to full time wohm. It was definitely a transition! Mostly in not having the extra time to get things done around the house. I really think pt wohm is a great balance of you're wanting to work!

I think as with anything, there is an adjustment period. I gave myself 3 months when I returned to work. If it wasn't manageable and we weren't able to get into a good routine, I was going to give my notice.

I was a miserable WOHM for 6 weeks, then happy SAHM, then back to happy WOHM. I feel really good about our arrangement now. :-)

I worked two days per week from when LO was 4mo-18mo. For the last 6 months I've been a SAHM, since we moved to a new town. I am looking for another very part time job again now...

When I was working two days out of the house I never really felt excited to go to work, *but* I always felt good after work. I felt refreshed, accomplished and so happy to see LO again. Two days per week seems like a good balance for me.

Following! Been SAH since my LO was born and seriously job hunting now. I did a daycare tour last week and freaked-the-f-out thinking about actually leaving LO there. :/

Give it time. I gave myself 6 months. The first two were awful, but I kept telling myself "if I get to 6 months and it's still like this, I can quit."
I got to six months and it was better, so I kept going. After 10 months back, I was struggling so I left one part time job that required me to work 3 days a week in favor of one that is 1 or 2 days a week, and felt instantly better.

I do like having the balance of being able to be home, but also able to work on my career. I'm lucky to have a job that allows that.

Each transition has been cake for my daughter, but she is way more easy going than me!!

I went from a WOHM to a SAHM and now I'm transitioning to a part time WAHM. Each transition has been daunting but my feeling is once you are over the initial hump it's fine! Good luck!!!

How was the transition? Was it hard on you/SO/LO's? I've been a SAHM for nearly 6 years...honestly, I think I will be a lot happier working part time and contributing to our finances but part of me is heartbroken. SAH is all I've known while being a parent.

What was your experience?
