Fortunately this hasn't happened yet (finding wood to knock on) but there's no way my husband can take off. I will rely on parents, inlays, and neighbors.

This is making me really appreciate my mom. She had 3 babies 3 and under in diapers and have crippling migraines. So horrrible. WHen she has a migraine she is in bed, throwing up for 2 days. And my dad worked 2 jobs for the first part of our childhood. She is supermom!

Just was just an issue for us, I just powered through, because not only was DH too busy to take off of work, he was working 14-16 hour days the whole time, and Sawyer was sick as well :(

I just suffer. What can you do, right? When LO was just a couple months old and I was venting to a friend about various things, she told me " the mom always gets the short end of the stick", and I have found that to be so incredibly true in these kinds of circumstances. Of course I also think we get the highest highs but I find it easier to deal by not expecting help iykwim.

Being sick is the worst, especially as a SAHM with no local family/unpaid help. I've had to suffer through mastitis + stomach bug with a 3 week old and no help at all, and a horrendous cold. Just suffered through, DH couldn't take off work and parents/in-laws are all 2 states away...

I'm not TTC or have kids buuuuuut...

My mom was a SAHM and I consider her WONDERWOMAN for taking care of us (brother and I) when she was sick. My dad wasn't the most involved parent (I don't think he ever changed a diaper...), so my mom would have never dreamed of asking him to stay home with my brother and I. Actually, the thought of my dad watching us makes me laugh because it's so hard to picture.

I obviously don't remember how she handled being sick when I was a baby or toddler, but I remember when my brother and I were a bit older she would try to take power naps to keep up her energy. She also got migraines a lot (which I inherited from her!), and I remember her saying that we had to be quiet because mommy has a headache. We usually entertained ourselves by playing outside in the backyard if it was summer, or playing in the basement if it was cold out.

Kudos to you SAHM's who still manage to take care of the kids!!!!!!!

@artbee: migraines are the worst! that will be nice when your mom is available. right now my MIL isn't working so she came over and is playing with DD while I nap/rest. thank goodness for the grandmas

@Red: I hardly get sick but when I do it's pretty bad. But I guess I should really ask myself do I need him here? I think DH could have gone to work yesterday (I think men are babies when it comes to getting sick IMO) but I'm glad he got to rest up. I'm glad we all agree TV in bed is Aokay :)

Unless feverish and bedridden,I usually just suck it up and power through it. LO ends up watching a lot of TV in bed with me. I also try to keep germs off of her washing my hands a lot and not breathing on her (but I'm sure these steps are futile, lol).

If I am extremely sick, then I do ask my husband to either stay home, work at home, or work a half day.

It depends how sick I am. If I can deal with it and take care of LO, I do. My problem is that I'm sick pretty often.... my sick is migraines. So every time my head hurts he can't take off because then he'd get fired.

So I either 1. Deal with it and lay on LO's floor while she plays around me as much as possible. 2. DH takes off work or 3. My mom takes off work. She works for my dad so this is usually a good option for us. And she's retiring soon so I'm looking forward to having her there whenever I need her!

Ugghhhh. I was thinking this the other day when I couldn't handle being at work and needed sleep. We dropped lo off at daycare so I could stay home and suffer by myself. And nap. I can't imagine being a SAHM and getting sick.

haha I just posted about this a couple days ago!!! Not fun..

I couldn't ask DH to stay home since he used up all his sick time taking paternal leave. But the day I was sick he didn't work until 12:30pm so I DID expect him to let my sleep in and he wouldn't get up with DS so I was mad.

Call me a bad mom - but DS watched a lot of TV that day. He loves Baby Mozart and Signing time. We probably watched both twice. And he didn't nap well, anytime I tried to nap he didn't. Thanks kid!!

Yesterday, DH was sick and stayed home. I helped take care of him and made sure he got lots of rest.

Today, I'm sick and a SAHM to our LO who is 5.5 months old. I was thinking DH would stay home again (since he is feeling better) to take care of DD so I don't get her sick. Instead he went to work and I feel like crap.

Am I wrong for wanting him to stay home? What do you do in your family when someone gets sick?
