I barricade myself indoors as well, and cold is not an excuse I can use, though my not having a car is a semi-okay excuse. We do take walks to the library, but I'm just waiting for when DS can actually walk. It's been cold in MI and a bad flu season so I was really conservative through week 6. Since then I started taking LO out to visit friends, grocery shop, walk at the mall, etc. We run errands and eat out on wknds with LO in tow. The library is good, too! They usually have a lap baby thing at some of the ones in this area, where they sing songs and you interact things with your baby. Plus, a 5 year old is stimulated by different things than a baby and have more of an assortment of what they can do...LO to be is going to be doing a lot of just tagging along this summer, lol. We found that our local Gymboree-type place was running a free class for the winter session (free with $30 registration fee, a total of 11 classes), and we also signed him up for Music with Mar and swimming at the YMCA. At 7 months, DS loves to be around other babies, and it gives us something to do for an hour during the day. When he's got days off, we go places, though. (well, not lately, cause dh doesn't want me to venture too far in my 9th month, lol) And, I plan on keeping them really busy in the summers, like I always do with DS. We go to the library, shopping, to the Children's Museum nearby, another museum uptown...lots of museums, actually, that are great for kids, the park, the zoo. Speaking of the zoo, when ds was a baby and I was a sahm mom with him, I got a membership to a zoo nearby, and went at least once a week. We run errands, go shopping, go to classes, or just walk! Even if it's really cold (today it's in the 20s) we bundle up and go out. We go to the library weekly for storytime and we go for walks pretty often ( 4 or more times a week). Once some of the snow melts we'll start playing in the yard every day (hopefully in the next couple months). We also go to an indoor play area at least once a week, either McDonald's or this pay to play place 20 minutes away. Other places we go less frequently: the park (it still has a lot of snow, though), sledding on a hill by our house, to the duck pond, hiking/nature walks on trails, to the zoo/aviary/aquarium, and for a playdate with our friends. I also usually have to run errands one day a week. We don't get out much during the week. I just registered us for a Baby Story Hour at our local library, and we'll get out and about and walk more once the weather gets nicer. I'm really limited where we live...there are really no Mommy and Me classes or Gymboree or anything like that. If so, what do you guys do? LO and I are trapped at home because we only have one car, and it is way too cold out to walk anywhere right now. Once DH gets a car, and I get mine back I really want to get her out of the house more. I need some ideas of what we can do!
