I set an alarm for 8:30 each morning. If DS isn't up by then, I get up and try to have him up by 9:00. It just keeps him on a good schedule for the rest of the day. I've only been doing this for the last 4-6 months(ish). As she got older and especially now that she's only on one nap, I get up before her to get showered and dressed and to unload the dishwasher. It really set my whole mood for the day...I found that I had a lot more patience than normal.
